Dhaka, Feb 5 (UNB) - The government is going to set up a dedicated power plant for Mirsarai Economic Zone to ensure uninterrupted power supply there.
Mirsarai Economic Zone is being developed by the government with a target to come into operation within a year or two.
Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) has been developing the economic zone on 7716 acres of land with its own financing.
According to officials, B-R Powergen Ltd (BRPL), a newly created joint venture company of two state-owned entities - Power Development Board (PDB) and Rural Power Company Ltd (RPCL) was entrusted with the responsibility to set up the 163 MW dual-fuel power plant at Mirsarai area.
Power Division officials said the BRPL has already selected a Chinese firm Sinohydro Corporation Ltd to construct the power plant on a turnkey basis within next 15 months at a contract value of Tk 890 crore. A contract will be signed between the BRPL and Sinohydro Corporation Ltd in this regard on Monday.
The PDB and RPCL will finance the project from their own funds through the BRPL.
PDB Director Saiful Hasan said the plant will dedicatedly supply power to the Mirsarai economic zine. "If there is any extra power in the plant, it will be supplied to the national grid", he added.
A power purchase agreement (PPA) will be signed among the concerned agencies, said the officials.
