Dhaka, Oct 12 (UNB) – Four-time title holders and defending champions South Korea made a good start in the eight-team Hero10th Men’s Asia Cup Hockey crushing Oman by 7-2 goals in a Pool B match at Maulana Bhashani National Stadium on Thursday.
After a hard-fought barren first quarter, Rashad Al Fazari put Oman ahead in the 18th minute by a field goal (1-0).
South Korea managed to level the margin in the 2nd quarter from a field goal by Mookyoung Lee in the 22nd minute (1-1).
Hoon Suk Cho and Korean captain Seungil Lee scored one field goal each in the 34th and 38th minutes respectively while Jihun Yang scored another from a penalty corner in the 41st minute to extend the Korean lead to 4-1 in the 2nd quarter.
Namyong Lee scored one field goal in the 47th minute while Jonghyun Jang scored another goal for Korea from a one penalty corner in the very next minute (6-1) before Mubarak Asad Al Qasmi scored a field goal for Oman in the 52nd minute to reduce the margin (6-2).
Namyong Lee scored his 2nd and the last goal for the Korea by a penalty corner in the death minute (7-2).
On Friday, Japan will play Pakistan at 3pm while hosts Bangladesh will face India in the 2nd match at 5:30 pm.
