Truck set on fire in Dinajpur amid blockade
Unidentified miscreants set fire to a truck loaded with maize in Dinajpur town on Monday morning amid the countrywide 48-hour blockade enforced by BNP and like-minded opposition parties.
Sumon Debnath, sub-inspector of Kotwali Police Station, said the truck, owned by Gulzar Hossain, was kept in a garage where it was set ablaze by unidentified miscreants around 5 am.

Fire Service Civil Defence personnel were able to douse the fire. The front side of the truck was gutted but the maize was saved.
Sheikh Jinnah Al Mamun, Additional Superintendent of Police of Sadar Circle said, process is underway to identify the culprits and bring them under the law.

Jubo League leader stabbed dead in Gaibandha
A local Jubo League leader was stabbed to death by unidentified miscreants in Gaibandha's Sundarganj upazila on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Zahidul Islam, 38, president of Sonaray union unit Jubo League and son of Abul Hossain Member of Paschim Baidyanath village of the upazila.

Police have arrested four people in connection with the murder.
According to police, Zahidul Islam and Kabir Mia were attacked by 7-8 people while they were returning home from Bamandanga on Sunday around 11:30 pm.
Locals rescued them and took them to the Sundarganj Health complex. Later, Zahidul was transferred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
Zahidul died while undergoing treatment at the hospital, KM Azmiruzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sundarganj Police Station, said.
Efforts are underway to arrest the criminals, he added.

Mizanur Rahman Litu, president of upazila unit Jubo League, alleged that Zahidul Islam was killed in a planned attack by Jamaat-BNP terrorists.
"We demand immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the killers", he added.

20 BNP men arrested in Chattogram
Police on Sunday arrested at least 20 BNP leaders and activists in Chattogram during a nationwide 48-hours blockade called by the BNP and other like-minded ooposition parties.

Bogura Swechasebak Dal leader arrested
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a BNP leader from Dhaka's Motijheel area on Saturday morning in a case filed over sabotage.
The arrestee Mizanur Rahman Mizan, 39, convener of Bogura Sadar Swechasebak Dal unit and son of late Afsar Ali of Gokul Paschim Para of the upazila.
6 BCL men suspended for factional clash in Bogura
RAB-3 arrested Mizan on Saturday Morning and handed him over to Bogura Sadar Police station on Sunday, Commander of RAB-12 (Superintendent of Police), Mir Monir Hossain, confirmed.
He said that during the blockade, a covered van and two trucks were set on fire in Baghopara and Dighalkandi areas of Dhaka-Rangpur highway.

ID card must for devotees joining Rash Festival
This year, the local administration has asked the devotees to keep their National Identity Cards (NIDs) along with them while joining the three-day traditional Rash Festival for Hindu communities, scheduled to begin on November 25.
The Hindu devotees will take part in the festival at Dublar Char and they have to enter into the Sundarbans through five designated routes.
The decision was taken at a meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Bagerhat with Deputy Commissioner Khalid Hossain, in the chair, on Sunday.
Strict action will be taken centering the traditional Rash Festival and all have to show their NID cards to participate in the three-day festival.
Local administration, police, forest Department, Coast Guard and Navy will perform their duties to ensure a smooth celebration of the festival.
The Rash Festival will end on November 27.
According to Forest Department sources, the devotees can enter into the Sundarbans by launch and trawler after paying taxes on November 25 and will leave the place on November 27 by evening.
The devotees won’t be allowed to carry any firearms.
Deputy Commissioner Khalid Hossain, said the local administration will take all-out necessary steps to ensure smooth celebration of the festival and the law enforcement agencies are on alert to stop occurrence of any sabotage activities.
Abul Hasnat Khan, superintendent of Bagerhat Police, said only Hindu devotees will be allowed to enter into the Rash Festival.
Divisional Forest Officer of Sundarbans East zone, Kazi Muhammad Nurul Karim, said this year, five routes have been selected for the transportation of the devotees and of these, two are in Bagerhat district and three in Khulna district.
Carrying of plastic products is prohibited in the Sundarbans, he said.
Missing autorickshaw driver found dead in Laxmipur
Police recovered the body of an auto-rickshaw driver from Adharrmanik area of Laxmipur Sadar upazila on Saturday afternoon, who went missing from the area on November 7.
The deceased was identified as Murad, son of Azad of Adharmanik village in Tewariganj union of the same upazila.

According to family members, Murad left home with his auto-rickshaw on Tuesday evening. Local Abul Kalam called him and took him to the Andharmanik area. Kalam was accompanied by his friend Sajeeb.
As Murad's mobile phone switched off after 11pm, his family members searched for him in every possible place.
Mosleh Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC0 of Sadar Police Station, said a general diary (GD) was filed on November 8 regarding Murad's disappearance.

Later on Saturday, locals spotted Murad's body in a hut and informed the police.
On information, police recovered the body around 2pm, added the OC.
The body was sent to Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy, he added.
33,200 US dollars seized in Meherpur
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Saturday (November 11, 2023) seized 32,200 US dollars equivalent to around Tk 39.84 lakh from Buripota bordering area in Meherpur district.
Tipped off, a team of BGB -6 Battalion from Chuadanga conducted a drive near pillar no 116/4-s and seized the US dollars wrapped in black polythene in an abandoned condition at 10:30 am, Commanding officer of BGB-6 Lieutenant Colonel Syed Mohammad Zahidur Rahman said while briefing reporters.

No one was arrested in this connection.
A case was filed with Sadar Police Station in Meherpur.
The seized money will be deposited to the treasurer office of Meherpur district.

Twins drown in Sitakunda pond
Two sisters drowned in a pond while playing near their house in Barowalia area of Chattogram's Sitakunda upazila on Friday.
The deceased were identified as Samia Sultana Sneha and Safia Sultana Synthia, 4, daughters of Mohammad Ershad of Kazlipara village of the upazila.

The tragic incident happened on Friday evening, Sonaichhari Union Parishad Chairman Moni Ahmed, confirmed.
Local neighbor Ramzan Ali said that the twin sisters left the house to play in the afternoon.
When they could not be found anywhere, locals and family members started searching in the pond. At one point, they recovered the duo.

Nargis Akhter, mother of the victims said, around 5:30, she saw the floating sandals of her two daughters on the water of the pond. Hearing her scream, neighbours rescued the two sisters and took them to the local Bhatiari BSBA hospital where doctors declared them dead on arrival, the ill-fated mother said.
Due to the tragic incident, a pall of gloom has descended on the village.
Khulna’s jute godown fire under control after 2 hours
The massive fire that broke out at a godown of a jute mill in Rupsa upazila of Khulna on Friday evening has been brought under control after more than two hours of frantic efforts.
The fire started around 5:45pm in the warehouse of Popular Jute Mill in Rajapur area under the upazila, said Md Faruk Hossain Sikdar, assistant director of Khulna Fire Service and Civil Defence department.

On information, eight firefighting units rushed to the spot and brought the flame under control around 7:50 pm, he added.
The reason behind the fire and the extent of damage are yet to be ascertained, Faruk Hossain said.
