3 die in separate accidents in Dinajpur
Three people died in two separate accidents in Dinajpur on Friday.
Among the deceased, two people, including the driver of a covered van, were killed when a pick-up van hit their vehicle at Phulbari upazila in Dinajpur.
The deceased were identified as Nayeb Ali, 45 and Shafiul Zaman, 28, of Thakurgaon.

Rezaul Karim, sub-inspector of Phulbari Police Station, said a Dhaka-bound pick-up van hit the back of the covered van at Dangapara near the headquarters of BGB's 29 battalion in Phulbari upazila on Gobindaganj regional highway in Dinajpur around 3am on Friday.
The speeding pickup truck lost control while going in the same direction and caused the incident, said SI Rezaul.

Meanwhile, a 103-year-old man died when a Panchagarh-bound Panchagarh Express train hit him near Chirirbandar railway station in Dinajpur around 7:30am on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Zehar Uddin.
Railway Police Station Sub-Inspector Zahir Raihan said the man, who was hearing impaired, was hit by the train while crossing the rail line.

BGB detains 2 people with 20 gold bars in Satkhira
Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained two persons with 20 gold bars weighing 3.830 kilograms from Lokkhidari and Bashkol areas of Satkhira's Bhomra border on Thursday.
They were allegedly attempting to smuggle the gold bars from Bangladesh to India, said a press release.
1 detained with 14 gold bars worth over Tk 1.41 crore in Satkhira
In Lokkhidari, a team of 33-BGB Battalion conducted a drive in the area on Thursday afternoon and apprehended a man and recovered 2.420 kilograms of gold from his possession.
The current market value of the seized gold bars is over Tk 2.13 crore.
Two detained with 31 gold bars in Satkhira: BGB
In another incident, the law enforcers detained Ashraful Islam , 24, with 10 gold bars weighing 1.410 kilograms from the Bashkol area this morning.
The market value of the seized gold bars is more than Tk 1.24 crore.
BGB seizes six gold bars worth Tk58 lakh near Satkhira border
The detainees were handed over to Satkhira Sadar police station and the process is underway to hand over the seized gold bars to the Satkhira Treasury Office, said the press release.
Race in Bangabandhu tunnel: 5 cars seized, 2 arrested
Police in Chattogram have seized five cars that illegally raced in the Bangabandhu tunnel following its opening to traffic on October 29.
Police conducted raids in different areas of the port city and seized the cars on Thursday, said Zahir Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Karnaphuli police station.

Two cousins drown in Chattogram
The arrestees are Ashraful Haque, 35, son of Ansarul Haque of Alkaran Haque Mansion, Kotwali Police Station, Chattogram Metropolis, and Emran Uddin, 24, son of Solaiman Saudagar of Bakalia.
A case was filed following a complaint on charges of violating rules of using the under-water tunnel in the Karnaphuli River.

Cox's Bazar wears festive look ahead of PM’s visit on Saturday

The projects to be inaugurated include railway line from Dohazari to Cox's Bazar, Matarbari Ultra Super Critical Coal-Fired Power Project, Matarbari Deep Sea Port Channel, Bridge over Bakkhali River, Connecting Kutubdia Island to National Grid through Submarine Cable, Ukhiya Waste to Power Generation Project, Technical Training Center in Ramu Upazila, expansion and development work of Chakaria Bir Mukti Joddha Shaheed Abdul Hamid Municipal Bus Terminal, Kutubdia Thanda Chowkidar Para RCC Girder Bridge, Gorakghata-Shaplapur Janatabazar Road in Maheshkhali, land filling of Water Development Board under Airport Development Project, Dam Construction Project, Eidgaon Jahanara Girls High School, Moheshkhali Yunuskhali High School, Ukhiya Ratna and Morichya Palong High School academic buildings.

On the other hand, the projects to be laid foundation stones are-- 1st Terminal of Matarbari Deep Sea Port Channel, Teknaf Multipurpose Disaster Resilient Shelter cum Isolation Centre, RCC Girder Bridge Construction on Nanda Khali Road in Ramu, and Building Construction Project under Cub Scouting Expansion Scheme in District Primary Schools.

BSF kills 15-year-old boy along Rajshahi border
A 15-year-old boy was shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) while he was cutting grass at Diar Manikchak border in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi on Thursday.
The deceased was Samirul Islam alias Samiul of Barinagar village of Char Ashariadah union of the upazila.
The incident happened at the border on Thursday morning.
2 trucks torched in Rajshahi, Bogura
Locals said, Samiul went to cut grass on the land near Diyar Manikchak border around 9:30 am. At that time, BSF soldiers of Char Ashariadah outpost on the Indian border fired three rounds at Samirul. He died on the spot.
Commander of 53 Battalion Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Lt Col Nahid Hossain said the visited the spot in the afternoon after receiving information about the incident. The body was later recovered.

60-year-old dies as tree falls on him in Chandpur
A 60-year-old man died after a tree fell on his head while he was cutting it at Charfatejangpur village in Ibrahimpur union of Chandpur Sadar on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Rahim Bepari of the village.

Nuru Dhali, brother-in-law of the deceased, said Rahim was seriously injured when a Kadam tree fell on him while he was cutting it. Later, relatives took him to Chandpur Government General Hospital, where a duty doctor declared him dead.
Later, the hospital authorities informed Chandpur Model Police Station about the matter.

Tk 7 crore bridge in Lalmonirhat left unused due to no approach road
A concrete bridge, built at a cost of Tk 7 crore, over Kesharghat Soti River in Sadar upazila of Lalmonirhat district cannot be used due to no approach road.
Locals, however, made a bamboo bridge to cross the river on foot.
People of the area said that following the demand of nearly one lakh residents of two unions in the upazila, the local administration started the construction work of the bridge in 2021 at a cost of tk 7 crore.
Though the construction work was completed, the authorities concerned failed to erect approach roads on both ends of the bridge due to land acquisition complexities.

Mujibur Rahman, a resident of Khuniagach village, said they are using the concrete bridge by making bamboo structures on both ends of the bridge as it is the only means of communication. “Public suffering intensified during monsoon,” he said.
According to sources at the Local Government Engineering Department, the LGED started the construction work of the bridge on March 25, 2021, involving Tk 6.82 crore. Though the construction work of the 81m long concrete bridge was completed in time, due to land acquisition problems, no approach roads could be built on both sides of the bridge.
Fazlul Haque, a school teacher, said, “There had been a bamboo bridge over the river and people used to cross it, putting their lives at risk. Currently, there is a concrete bridge, but it has not solved the commuting problems due to the absence of approach roads.”
Nur Mohammad, a local businessman, demanded an immediate solution to the problem to mitigate the suffering of people.

Shahjamal, a representative of the contractor firm that worked on the bridge, assured that the construction of approach roads will start soon.
Akhtaruzzaman, executive engineer of LGED, said, “We are at the end of resolving the land acquisition problem and the work of approach roads will start soon.”
Blockade: Two vehicles torched in two districts
Two vehicles were set on fire in Bogura’s Shibganj upazila and in Borguna’s Amtali upazila on Wednesday night amid the countrywide 48-hour blockade enforced by the BNP and other like-minded opposition parties.
Unidentified miscreants set a truck on fire in Chandihara area of Bogura’s Shibganj upazila, said Talha Bin Jasim, station officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence Media Cell.
The fire was reported at 8:55pm, said the fire service official.

Two units of Shibganj Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the spot and doused the fire, he added.
Meanwhile, a passenger bus of “Shakura Paribahan" was set on fire in Borguna’s Amtali upazila on Wednesday evening.
The fire was reported at around 9:22pm, said Station Officer Talha.

On information, two units of Amtali Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the spot and doused the fire, he said.
