Rapists on the prowl; 3 more fall victims in Netrakona, N'ganj
Dhaka, June 12 (UNB) – Three girls have reportedly been raped in Netrakona and Narayanganj districts.
In Netrakona, a Class-VIII girl was violated by the ‘headmaster’ of her school in Barhatta upazila on June 9.
The victim filed a case with Barhatta Police Station on Tuesday in this regard.
Victim’s family said headmaster Ain Uddin of Haziganj High School invited some of his students to the marriage ceremony of his daughter at his house on June 9.
He violated the girl during the marriage ceremony but the victim kept mum fearing social repercussion.
However, her parents could understand the matter noticing change in her behaviour.
Officer-in-charge of the police station Md Badrul Alam Khan said they were looking for the headmaster.
In Narayanganj, a 17-year-old girl was raped by her ‘stepbrother’ at Bangashashan of Bandar upazila on Tuesday night.
Police arrested the alleged rapist, Hridoy, 28, son of Monir Hossain Mia of Lalkharbagh shortly after the incident.
Police said Hridoy’s father married the victim’s mother, who was previously married, after his first wife’s death. Hridoy used to harass the girl from her mother’s first marriage very often.
The victim was returning home when Hridoy picked her up around 8pm and took her to a nearby bush where he violated her.
The victim was sent to Sadar Hospital for medical test, said officer-in-charge of Bandar Police Station Rafiqul Islam.
In Siddhirganj upazila, a 13-year-old girl was reportedly violated by one of her neighbours in Adanzee Sawmillpara area on Wednesday afternoon as she was alone at her house.
The victim’s uncle alleged that Abul Kalam Sikdar, 45, son of Solem Uddin Sikdar also raped the victim several times in the past, too.
Officer-in-charge Siddhirganj Police Station Mir Shahin Shah Parvez said the victim informed her uncle about the rape while he along with other locals caught Sikdar and handed him over to police.
