Rajshahi, Nov 19 (UNB) – A young man was killed and two other people were injured as a motorcycle overturned on the road after hitting a pedestrian at Bornalir intersection in the city on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Imran, 20, son of Rentu of Laxmipur Bhatpara area.
Rafiqul Islam, an assistant sub-inspector of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital police outpost, said the accident took place around 10pm as the motorcycle moving with Imran and another youth skidded off the road for reckless driving after hitting a female pedestrian, leaving Imran and the pedestrian critically injured.
The injured were taken to the local hospital where doctors declared Imran dead.
Sirajganj, Nov 18 (UNB) – It’s a double tragedy for a minor girl of Raiganj upazila. First, she was raped by a youth of her Chakchowbila village barely five months back and now it has got public that she is ‘pregnant’.
Matiar Rahman, chairman of Salanga Sadar union parishad, said Akram Hossain, a local youth, violated the fifth grader of a madrasah five months back and threatened to kill her if she discloses the matter.
Scared by the death threat, the victim did not tell anyone about it. However, the matter came to the light on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the rapist has gone into hiding, the chairman said.
Contacted, Tajul Hossain, officer-in-charge of Salanga Police Station, said they heard about the incident but did not receive any written complaint. “Necessary legal steps will be taken once we receive a written complaint,” he said.
Narayanganj, Nov 18 (UNB) – Traffic movement on Dhaka-Chattogram highway remained suspended for three hours as a fierce clash broke out between two groups over establishing supremacy at Madanpur in port area here on Sunday.
Quoting witnesses’ police said Khalil Member, member of no 5 ward of Madanpur union parishad and Amir group had been at loggerheads over establishing supremacy in the area.
Some supporters of Amir group swooped on Khalil and stabbed him while he was sitting at a poultry feed shop in the area at noon, leaving him injured.
When the news spread, the supporters of Khalil member announced the matter through loudspeaker. Later, they attacked the houses of the supporters of Amir group and set fire to Nabi Market.
They also put up a barricade on Dhaka-Chattogram highway by torching tyre, halting traffic movement on the busy highway. At one stage, the supporters of Amir group equipped with lethal weapons attacked the supporters of Khalil group, triggering a clash and turning the whole area into a battle field.
When police went to the spot to bring the situation under control they hurled brickbats towards police, forcing the law enforcers to fire rubber bullets, leaving 50 people injured.
At one stage, police along with Rab personnel dispersed them and brought the situation under control.
Additional police were deployed in the area to avert further trouble.
Pirojpur, Nov 18 (UNB) –A man was hacked to death by his son-in-law over a family feud at Chandipur village in Indurkani upazila of the district on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Ripon Hawladar, 40, son of Abdur Rahman Hawladar of Charbaleswar village in Indurkani upazila.
Officer-in-charge of Indurkani Police Station Habibur Rahman said Hawlader’s son-in-law Hasibul Islam attacked him with a sharp weapon when he was going to a local bazar at Chandipur around 5:15 pm, killing him on the spot.
Later, locals caught Hasibul from the spot and handed him over to police.
The body was sent to Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Chattogram, Nov 18 (UNB)- A young man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree at Dhakshin Ali Nagar village in Mirsarai upazila on Sunday morning.
The deceased was identified as Kala Mia, 25, son of Alauddin of the village.
Alauddin, Sub-Inspector of Jorarganj Police Station, said being informed by family members, police recovered the hanging body from a tree near his residence this morning and sent it to a hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Kala Mia was a drug addict and he might have committed suicide out of frustration, he said.
