Narsingdi, Nov 17 (UNB) – Police recovered the body of an unidentified young rickshaw-puller from Sebhasangha intersection in Sadar upazila on Saturday morning.
Mizan, a sub-inspector (SI) of Sadar Police Station, said locals spotted the body around 8am and informed police.
Later, police recovered the body, said the SI.
Munshiganj, Nov 17 (UNB) – A convicted robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Paschim Baroikhali in Sreenagar upazila early Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Tajel, 36, son of Din Islam Khorshed of Baghorar Rudrapara village.
Tajel was convicted to seven years' jail in a robbery case and also an accused in 10 other cases.
Md Yunus Ali, officer-in-charge of Sreenagar police station, said a team of police arrested Tajel from Monirampur upazila in Jashore on Friday at 10:30am.
Acting on his information, a team of police conducted a drive at Madankhali around 11 pm to recover arms.
When the team reached the area, his associates attacked the police and Tajel tried to flee, said the OC.
After a gunfight, police recovered his bullet-ridden body from the spot.
Police also recovered a pistol, three bullets and 100 Yaba pills from the spot.
Three policemen were also injured in the incident, the OC said.
Benapole, Nov 17 (UNB) – Three people, including a Jubo League leader, were injured in a bomb attack in front of a park in Sharsha upazila on Friday night.
The injured were identified as Shariful Islam Pipul, 42, joint general secretary of Ulashi union Jubo League, his associate Abdul Wahab, 35, and van-puller Abu Kashem, 34.
M Moshiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sharsha Police Station, said a gang of miscreants hurled two crude bombs at a van when Pipul along with Wahab was returning home from Mirzapur around 9:30am, leaving the trio injured.
The injured were admitted to Jashore General Hospital.
Rajshahi, Nov 16 (UNB) – Police arrested a young man over an allegation of posting a distorting photo of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on social media site Facebook.
The detainee was identified as Swapan Mandal, 21, son of Moslem Uddin Modal of Gaopara village in Bagha Upazila.
Officer-in-charge of Bagha Police Station Mohsin Ali said Swapan digitally edited an image defacing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and posted it on his Facebook wall on July 4, 2017.
Local Awami League leaders informed it to police immediately, but the law enforcers could not manage to arrest him as he remained hiding since then.
Later on Friday evening, being tipped-off, police detained Swapan.
He will be produced before the court on Saturday, the OC added.
Chandpur, Nov 16 (UNB) – An addicted man surrendered before police after stabbing dead his father for refusing to give him money for drug in Uttar Ichali village of Sadar Upazila on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Musa Gazi, 65, of the village.
Hossain Gazi, son of the victim, stabbed his father indiscriminately while he was sleeping in his room at 8:30 am and soon fled away, according to family sources.
Hearing the screams of the victim, family members rushed in and took the injured to Chandpur Sadar Hospital from where he was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Musa Gazi, however, died on the way to Dhaka, said Md Ibrahim Khalil, officer-in-charge of Chandpur Model Police Station.
Later, the killer son surrendered to the police station, he said.
Meanwhile, the victim’s elder son Alam Gazi claimed that Hossain has been undergoing treatment for long as he became mentally impaired for taking drugs for long time.
