Noakhali, Nov 15 (UNB) - Police recovered the body of a young girl who went missing on Sunday from a ditch near her residence at Maijdi in Sadar upazila on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Tabassum Tania Chamak, 22, daughter of Shahjada Enamul Haq Himel and a third year student of Sonapur College.
Victim’s father said Tania had gone out to receive her parents from Maijdi Court Railway Station on Sunday night but went missing.
Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Noakhali General Hospital for autopsy, said Md Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sudharam Model Police Station.
Dhaka, Nov 15 (UNB) - Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia on Thursday said they have identified 30 people who were involved in Wednesday’s attack on police in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.
“We’ve already identified 30 people scrutinising photographs and video footage of both print and electronic media and the process is underway to identify the rest,” he said while talking to reporters at his DMP headquarters office.
The DMP chief claimed that they got sure that all of the attackers are leaders and activists of BNP and its front organisations.
Two new police cars were torched and 23 law enforcers, including five police officers and two Ansar members, were injured during the attack, he said.
Describing the attack on police as ‘unexpected’, Asaduzzaman said, “Large sticks were used for the attack. We’re sure that the attack was a premeditated one. The attack was carried out to foil the upcoming national election and create an unstable situation.”
He said three cases were filed with Paltan Police Station and 60 people were arrested from the spot over the attack.
At least 50 people, including 23 policemen, were injured in a clash between BNP leaders and activists and law enforcers in front of the party’s Nayapaltan central office on the third day of its nomination-form sale on Wednesday.
Police lobbed teargas shells, rubber bullets and charged baton on the BNP men while two police cars were torched during the clash.
However, both the government and BNP traded a blame game over the clash ahead of the national election billed for December 30.
Jessore, Nov 15 (UNB) – At least a person was killed while 20 others injured following a head-on collision between two buses at Karimpur on Jessore-Narail highway on Thursday morning.
The deceased was identified as Sushovon Khisha, 65, a resident of Rangamati district.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent the injured people to Jessore General Hospital for treatment, said Jashimuddin, officer-in-charge of Bagharpara Police Station.
The conditions of two of the injured were stated critical and referred to Dhaka for better treatment, said Abdul Kalam, medical office of the hospital.
Saver, Nov 15 (UNB) – Four members of a family sustained burn injuries as some unidentified miscreants set fire on their house at Bakterpur in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital early Thursday.
The injured were identified as Zahid, 35, his wife Sumi Akter, 30 and their children Sumaiya Akter, 9, and Suraia Akter, 5.
A fire broke out at the house of Zahid when a group of miscreants hurled some inflammable substance to the house through the window around 5:30 am, leaving four people injured, according to locals.
Later, the victims’ neighbours rescued them and took them to Savar Enam Medical College Hospital.
The condition of the four victims was stated to be critical, said Nasir Uddin, an in-charge of the hospital (OT).
On information, police went to the spot and investigating the incident, said Abdul Awal, officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station.
Gazipur, Nov 15 (UNB) – Two people including a truck driver died from electrocution at Jhajra in the city here early Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Rubel Mia, 30, a truck driver and his assistant Jahangir, 50, hailing from Bhola district.
Md Akteruzzaman, assistant director of Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defence, said the incident took place around 1:30 am when the truck hit an electric pole beside the road and got electrified, leaving the duo dead on the spot.
On information, a firefighting unit went to the spot and recovered the bodies in the morning.
