Faridpur, Dec 24 (UNB) – The son-in-law and grandchildren of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have joined the election campaign and started electioneering for ‘Boat’ from Faridpur-3 constituency.
Khandaker Mashrur Hossain Mitu, son-in-law of the PM sought votes for his father Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, the LGRD minister, after joining the election campaign at Krishnanagar union in Sadar upazila on Monday.
Later he addressed a rally seeking vote for ‘Boat’. When speaking, he said “My father is in the politics because of tradition and he wanted to work for the people and you have got the proof as there has been extensive development in every sector of the district. You should cast your vote for ‘Boat’ for the continuation of the development.”
Besides, Alizeh Khandaker Ruponti and Amrin Khandaker Shimonti, two daughters of Saima Wajed Putul, also sought vote for ‘Boat’ while addressing two separate rallies in Chandpur union of Sadar upazila.
Khagrachhari, Dec 24 (UNB) – Two people were shot dead during a gunfight between the activists of United People's Democratic Front (UPDF), the Chittagong Hill Tracts-based political party, and its rival group Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samiti(PCJSS)(MN Larma) at Pujgang in Panchhari upazila on Monday.
The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.
Nurul Alam, officer-in-charge of Panchhari Police Station, said the activists UPDF and PCJSS (MN Larma) exchanged gunfire following previous enmity around 12:30 pm, leaving two people dead on the spot.
However, details of the incident could not be known yet, said the OC.
On information, police went to the spot to investigate the incident.
Dhaka, Dec 24 (UNB) –A motorcyclist was killed and another injured as their vehicle crashed into a road divider in Hatirjheel area early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Rifat, 18, son of Md Liton Miah, and the injured is Sajib, 19, residents of AgargaonTaltola government staff quarter.
Sub-inspector Md Baccu Miah, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police outpost, said the motorbike skidded off the road hitting the divider, leaving the duo critically injured.
The injured were rushed to the hospital where doctors declared Rifat dead.
Gazipur, Dec 24 (UNB) – Huge goods and machinery were gutted in a fire that broke out at a jute factory at Keowa Bazar in Sreepur upazila on Monday.
Akteruzzaman, assistant director of Gazipur fire service and civil defence, said the fire originated from breaker card machine-8 of ‘Sarah Composite Mills Ltd’ around 5:45am and soon it engulfed the two godowns.
Jute, jute goods, raw materials and machinery were burned down in the fire.
On information, eight fire-fighting units from Joydevpur, Sreepur and Bhaluka rushed in and brought the fire under control after five hours of frantic efforts.
However, no casualty was reported in the fire.
Chuadanga, Dec 23 (UNB) – The vehicle of an assistant superintendent of police (ASP) reportedly came under a bomb attack in Damurhuda upazila on Sunday night.
Police shot the alleged attack in the leg and detained him after the attack.
ASP Abu Russel along with four constables was returning to his office after visiting an accident spot at Uthli in Jibannagar upazila.
As they reached near Darshana Filling Station, a young man, Titu, 26, son of Mozahid of Islam Bazar in Darshana, threw a bomb at the vehicle around 9pm which exploded in a big bang, said Police Super Mahbubur Rahman.
The blast damaged the right windowpanes of the vehicle, he said.
However, the ASP and other policemen escaped the attack unhurt, the SP said.
