Sirajganj, Dec 4 (UNB) – Fire fighters recovered the body of a mentally challenged teenage boy from an abandoned well at Dhurkhagrakhali village in Belkuchi upazila on Tuesday.
Local sources said Motaleb,16, son of Alam of the village, went missing on Monday evening.
Later, family members found the body in the well in the morning.
On information, firefighters recovered the body and sent it to Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hospital said Abdul Hamid, Deputy Assistant Director of Sirajganj Fire Service and Civil Defense.
Dhaka, Dec 4 (UNB) – Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive arrested five suspected robbers from Railway Colony besides Tejgaon Station Road in the city on Monday night.
The arrestees were Md Jahangir, 40, Md Rumon, 26, Md Wadud, 30, Md Khorshed and Md Lalchand, 22.
Being informed that a gang of robbers was taking preparation for committing robbery, a team of Rab conducted a drive in the area around 10:50 pm and arrested the criminals, said a Rab press release.
The team also recovered several sharp weapons from their possessions.
Khulna, Dec 4 (UNB) – Detectives arrested a suspected drug trader along with 100 Yaba tablets from Chuknagar bus stand area in Dumuria upazila early Tuesday.
The arrestee was identified as Mahabubur Rahman, son of Rustam Ali Fakir of the area.
A team of Detective Branch (DB) of police conducted a raid in the bus stand area around 1 am and arrested Mahabubur along with the Yaba tablets, said of DB Sub-inspector Mukta Roy Chowdhury.
The team also seized a motorcycle.
Kushtia, Dec 4 (UNB) – The body of a school boy, who was reportedly abducted on Sunday, was recovered from a neighbour’s house in Ramchandrapur village of Bheramara upazila on Monday evening.
The deceased was identified as Ashik Uddin, 14, son of Kutub Uddin of the village and a class VII student of Dharampur High School.
The victim’s father Kutub Uddin said his neighbour Mishuk, son of Samor Ali, called his son around 11:30 am on Sunday and was there till noon.
The victim’s father received a phone call for a ransom of amounting Tk 50,000 around 4:48 pm.
Later, Kutub Uddin went to Mishuk’s house and did not found his son there. But, Mishuk’s younger brother Asif told Kutub that Mishuk went to his father-in-law’s house.
However, when the victim’s father inquired about the phone number, Asif confirmed the phone number was owned by Mishuk.
Later, the victim’s father informed it to police.
On information, police conducted a search operation at Mishuk’s house and recovered the body from a wooden box on Monday evening, said SM Tanvir Arafat, superintendent of Kushtia police.
Police also detained two people for primary interrogation, he added.
Chattogram, Dec 4 (UNB) – The president of a local unit of Secchasebok League was stabbed to death allegedly by rivals in Kolagaon Tek area of Patiya upazila on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Jamal Uddin Akbar, 35, son of late Yasin Miah, president of Kalagaon union Secchasebok League.
There had been a long standing dispute between Awami League and its different factions over establishing supremacy in the area, said Md Shafiq, in-charge of Patiya Kalarpool Police outpost.
Locals said Akbar’s younger brother locked into an altercation with Secchasebok League leader Shahinur in the area around 9 pm.
Over the issue, Shahinur along with his supporters gathered in the area and swooped on Akbar and stabbed him, leaving him critically injured.
Being rescued by locals, the victim was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 10 pm.
Two years ago, general secretary Bahadur of union Secchasebok League was also stabbed to death by some miscreants, alleged locals.
Recently, the accused murderers of Bahadur were released from jail on bail.
