Thakurgaon, Dec 3 (UNB)- December 3 is a red letter day in the history of Thakurgaon district as it was liberated from the clutches of the Pakistan occupation army through a valiant freedom struggle on that day 1971.
In the morning of December 3, 1971 a big contingent of freedom fighters and allied forces coming from Tetulia (Tetulia was a liberated area throughout the Liberation War period) entered Thakurgaon town with a victorious mood.
To mark the day, district unit of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad and district unit of Bangladesh Udichi Shilpi Gosthi have jointly taken different programmes.
Discussions, rally, recitation, drama and cultural programmes, distribution crests among Shaheed families will also be held at the district's Central Shaheed Minar in the town.
Cox’s Bazar, Dec 3 (UNB) – Police arrested a member of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) along with 2,000 Yaba tablets from a bus at a bus station at Hneela union in Teknaf upazila on Sunday night.
The arrestee was identified as Mohammad Enamul Haque, 35, sepoy of BGB-2 Teknaf battalion.
Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Model Police Station, said that on information, a team of police raided the Dhaka-bound ‘Saint-Martin Service’ bus around 9 am and arrested Enamul along with the Yaba tablets.
Noakhali, Dec 2 (UNB) – Some unknown assailants shot a leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) in Bipulashpur area in Cumilla district on Saturday night, having reportedly picked him up from Gobindopur in Sonamukhi Municipality.
The victim is identified as Shaidullah Lition, 27, president of Sonamukhi Municipality JCD unit and son of Md Hanaif of the municipality here.
Sonamukhi Municipality BNP President Motaher Hossain Manik said a group of unidentified assailants picked Shaidullah from in front of his home in the municipality around 11:30 pm.
Later, the assailants beat him silly after tying his face with his t-shirt, and finally left him in the area after shooting him in his right leg.
Locals took him to Noakhali General Hospital in a critical condition, Manik added.
Abdul Mojid, officer-in-charge of Sonamukhi Police Station, said he had no information in this regard yet. Necessary legal steps would be taken after receiving a written complaint.
Jashore, Dec 2 (UNB) – Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 1,827 Yaba tablets from the bank of Ichamati River at Agrovullot village in Sharsha upazila on Sunday.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of BGB 21 battalion conducted a drive in the area around 1:30pm, said Lieutenant Colonel Emranullah Sarker, Commanding Officer of BGB Khulna headquarter.
During the drive, they found the Yaba pills wrapped in a polythene bag which was left abandoned on the river bank, he added.
Naogaon, Dec 2 (UNB) - Members of Border Security Force (BSF) of India on Sunday detained a Bangladeshi national as he allegedly entered India illegally through Nitpur border of Porsha upazila of the district.
The detainee was identified as Md Soleman Ali, 30, son of Nur Box Miah of Balashahid village in the upazila.
Naib Subedar Ashiqur Rahman of Nitpur Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) camp said Soleman crossed into India illegally through pillar No-229 around 6 am when a BSF team caught him.
BGB sent a letter to BSF inviting the Indian border force to a flag meeting to return Soleman, he said.
