3 motorcyclists killed in Nagaon road crash
Nagaon, Oct 9 (UNB) – Three motorcyclists were killed when a truck rammed a motorbike on Mohadebpur-Patnitola road in Patnitola upazila headquarters on Tuesday.
Woman's throat-slit body found in Bagerhat
Bagerhat, Oct 9 (UNB) – Police recovered the throat-silt body of a woman from Kagrabunia village in Chitalmari upazila on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Shahida Begum, 55, son of Hekmat Ali Shikder.
Anukal Chandra Sarker, officer-in-charge of Chitalmari Police Station, said Shahida’s family members found her throat-silt body in the morning and informed the police.
Later, police recovered the body around 10 am and sent it to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Police suspected that Shahida might have been murdered over a land-related dispute.
13 fishermen jailed for defying hilsa ban in Shariatpur
Shariatpur, Oct 09 (UNB) – A total of thirteen fishermen were sentenced to 15-day jail terms each in Naria upazila early Tuesday for catching hilsa from the Padma river defying a government ban.
A team of Upazila Fisheries Department in association with police and river police conducted a joint drive in the river from 4 am to 6 am and detained the fishermen along with 30,000 metre illegal current net and 30-kilogram jatka (hilsa fry).
Later, the fishermen were produced before a mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Sanjida Yeasmin, also the Upazila Nirbahi Officer, which sentenced each of them to jail terms.
Later, the seized net was burned down.
A 22-day ban on catching, selling and transporting hilsa in a 7,000-km breeding ground has been enforced from October 7 to 28 to ensure the safe spawning of this popular fish during its peak breeding period.
Sub-registrar hacked dead in Kushtia
Kushtia, Oct 9 (UNB) – A sub-registrar was hacked and strangled to death by unidentified miscreants at his house in Babor Alo gate area of the district town on Monday night.
Youth’s body found in Jhenidah
Jhenidah, Oct 9 (UNB) - Police recovered the body of an unidentified young man from a beel in Kaliganj upazila on Monday night.
The age of the deceased was around 25 years.
Locals spotted the body at Nolbeel of Maliat union in the upazila around 7 pm and informed police, said Sub-inspector Emdadul Haque of Totipur Police camp.
Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
