Bagerhat, Sep 1 (UNB) – A worker was electrocuted and two others were injured while working at Rampal coal-fired power plant site here on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Sajib Mia, 17, son of Hasan Mia of Jhanjhania village in Rampal upazila in the district.
Officer-in-charge of Rampal Police Station Md Lutfar Rahman said Sajib and two other worker injured as they received electric shock while cutting a rod with a machine at the under-constriction power plant.
Later, Sazib died while undergoing treatment at Khulna Medical College and Hospital.
The body was handed over to his family, the OC said.
Tangail, Sept 1 (UNB) – An assistant of a bus driver has been arrested on charge of raping a disabled teenaged girl along with two of his accomplices in a moving bus near Ibrahimabad Rail Station at Bhuapur area of Tangail.
The rape incident took place on Thursday night on the Bangabandhu Bridge-Dhaka highway in the district.
The arrestee, identified as Nazmul, gave a confessional statement on Saturday.
Officer-in-Charge of Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station Mosharraf Hossain said, the driver, supervisor and the driver’s assistant allegedly raped the girl around 11:30 pm after all other passengers got down from the bus in different stoppages.
A police patrol team ran into the spot and rescued the girl and arrested Nazmul hearing the scream of the girl, he added.
The girl was later sent to Tangail General Hospital.
Police are conducting drives to arrest the bus supervisor Bishu and driver Alam, who ran away from the scene.
The girl is primarily being suspected to be disabled as she cannot say anything except her name and name of her home district.
Nazmul was sent to jail on Friday afternoon.
On Saturday, primary sign of rape was found in the medical test, said Dr Rehena Parvin, Gynecologist of Tangail General Hospital.
Netrakona, Sep 1 (UNB) – At least four people were killed and three others injured after a bus collided with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Kendua-Atharabari road in Maska Bazar area in Kendua upazila on Saturday.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
The accident took place around 2:30 pm when a bus collided with the auto-rickshaw leaving four persons dead on the spot and injuring three others, said Shahjahan Mia, additional superintendent of Netrakona police.
Two of the injured were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital in critical condition.
Chattogram, Sep 1 (UNB) – A woman of an ethnic minority community was allegedly raped in BRAC Karnafuli Tea Garden in Shetkua area of Kanchan Nagar in the district on Friday.
Police arrested a man, Md Azam, 40, of Kanchan Nagar on Friday night in this connection.
Quoting the victim police said Azam dragged the girl into a forest of the tea state and violated her.
The victim filed a case in this regard and she was sent for medical test in a local hospital, the OC added.
Kushtia, Sept 1 (UNB) - Police on Friday night seized the bus of 'Ganj-e-raj Paribahan' that hit infant Akifa and her mother at Chourhash intersection of Kushtia town on Tuesday.
The bus was seized from New Bus Stand area in Faridpur town around 10:30 pm, said SM Mehedi Hasan, superintendent of Kushtia police.
However, the three accused--bus driver Khokon, its owner Joynul and supervisor Yunus--could not be arrested yet, he added.
Earlier on Thursday, Akifa, a one-year-old daughter of Haruur Rashid, sustained head injuries after she fell from her mother Rina Akter's lap when the killer bus hit the mother.
Later on Tuesday, she succumbed to her injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 4:45 am.
Harunur Rashid, father of the deceased, on Thursday night filed a case with Kushtia Model Police Station against the three.
The video footage of the incident went viral on the social networking site Facebook, sparking an uproar among locals.
