Fire at Ctg Firingi Bazar slum under control
A fire which broke out at a slum in Firingi Bazar area of Chattogram port city on Monday afternoon has been brought under control.Dinmoni Sharma, deputy director of Fire Service and Civil Defense said the fire broke out at the slum around 1:30 pm.On information, nine firefighting units rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control around 3 pm.

A fire at the Kumargaon Power Plant in Sylhet has disrupted electricity supply to parts of the city.
The fire broke out around 9 am on Monday. Five units of the fire service rushed to the scene and managed to bring the fire under control after about an hour of effort.
Talatala Fire Service and Civil Defense leader Shahidul Islam said, the fire was brought under control by 10 am.
Now, only smoke billowing out of the power plant, and there is no fear of any major accident, he added.
Death toll from Sylhet road crash rises to 4
Although there was no major damage in the fire incident, electricity supply has been suspended in some parts of Sylhet city.
According to the Power Division sources, the fire broke out in the abandoned air filter of the water treatment plant of the 225 megawatt power plant in Kumargaon.
Bangladesh Power Development Board Sylhet region chief engineer Mohammad Abdul Qadir said, the high-voltage wire of the 33 kV Golapganj Upazila supply line was snapped, sparking the fire, and then the fire spread to the air filter kept aside in the power center.
It will take several hours to restore power supply after assessing the damages, he said.
Moreover, electricity connection has been disrupted in five feeders under rural electrification board, out of which three have already been reconnected and the remaining two will be restored shortly, he added.
Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury visited the power plant.

“Allah has saved us from a major disaster. With the help of the firefighters and the assistance of the local people, the fire was brought under control. I will discuss with the authorities concerned to establish a fire service station near the power plant,” the mayor told media during the visit.
A devastating fire broke out at this power plant on November 17, 2020, which resulted in a 31-hour power outage in Sylhet city.

On April 12,two motorcycles collided and subsequently caught fire in Shahbagh Muhidpur area on Sylhet-Zakiganj road, leaving two people dead on the spot and two others injured.

22-year-old dies as train hits him in Sirajganj
A 22-year-old youth died after being hit by a train at Ghatina Bridge in Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj on the Dhaka-Ishurdi railway line on SUnday
The deceased was identified as Yadul Islam (22) of Adarsh Gram village of the upazila.
Md Mahbubur Rahman Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Sirajganj Bazar Railway Police Station, confrmed the matter.
The incident happened when Yadul was crossing the railway line at Ghatina Bridge around 9:30 am on Sunday, killing him on the spot, said the OC.
On receiving the news, the railway police recovered the body of the deceased from the spot and sent it to the Sirajganj Shaheed M Mansur Ali Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. A case has been filed in the concerned police station in connection with the incident, added the police official.

Two people died and another person was injured after their motorcycle hit a tree in at Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga early Sunday
The accident happened around 2:30 am last at Parlakhshippur village of the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Khalid Hossain (18), son of Sentu Mia of Borai village in Jhenaidah Sadar upazila, and Tamim Hossain (18), son of Ariful Islam of the same village. The injured person was identified as Sajib Ali (19), son of Shariful Islam of Sindhuria village in Chuadanga Sadar upazila.
Alamdanga Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Gani Mia confirmed the matter.
Police and locals said that the three youths had gone to a concert in Kushtia at night. While they were returning home their motorcycle lost control and hit a tree in Parlakhshippur village. Khalid and Tamim died on the spot. Sajib was seriously injured. He has been admitted to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital.
The bodies of the deceased are being to the Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsies, said the OC.
Police recovered a body from Sylhet canal
Police have recovered the body of a man from a canal on Companiganj-Kathalbari road in Companiganj upazila of Sylhet early Friday.
The deceased was identified as Babul Islam Bablu, 48, son of Tajul Islam of Uttar Islampur village of the upazila.
According to police, the deceased's body and motorcycle were found beside the canal.
Several front and rear parts of the motorcycle were broken and his head and legs had injury marks.
48 bottles liquor seized, woman arrested in Kurigram
Naba Kumar Singh, in-charge of Companiganj Fire Service Station said, the body was recovered from the side of Three Star Mill on Kathalbari Road at 6:30 am on Friday and handed over to police.

48 bottles liquor seized, woman arrested in Kurigram
Police have seized 48 bottles of foreign liquor and arrested a woman over drug peddling in Kurigram.
SP Ruhul Amin, media spokesman of Kurigram district police, said acting on a tip-off, a team of police conducted a drive and arrested Mamata Begum along with 48 bottles of foreign liquor from her house at Dhaluabari Balabari village under Kedar union around 8:00pm.
A case was filed with Kachakata Police Station .
3 teenage friends die after drinking 'toxic liquor' in Naogan: Police
Three teenage friends died reportedly after drinking toxic liquor at Pakuria village of Manda upazila in Naogaon on Thursday, police said.
The deceased were identified as Nishat Ali, 17, son of Ali Nekbar Ali of Dariapur village of Prasadpur union of Manda upazila, Sharikul Islam Pintu, 18, son of Akkas of Pakuria village of Varshon union and Ashiq Hossain, 18, son of Abdur Rashid of the same village.
They all are Class XI students of Mandar Uttara College.
Mozammel Haque Kazi, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Manda Police Station, said the three friends fell sick after drinking liquor this afternoon.
Of them, Ashiq Hossain died on the spot and while Nishat Ali and Sharikul Islam Pintu were pronounced dead after taken to Manda Upazila Health Complex.
The bodies will be sent to Naogaon Sadar Hospital for post-mortem on Friday, added the OC.
The exact cause of their deaths will be known only after the post-mortem report, he said.
A case of unnatural death (UD) was filed at Manda police station in this regard, said the officer.
Fire guts 30 shops in Shariatpur on Eid day
At least 30 shops were gutted in a major fire that broke out at a market in Shariatpur's Zajira upazila on Thursday.
No casualties were reported.
Locals said the fire broke out at a shop owned by Yunus in the market around 8am and it soon engulfed the adjoining shops.
On information, two fire tenders were pressed into service and it took them nearly two hours to bring the flames under control, Jazira Upazila Fire Service Inspector Shankar Biswas said.
Fire officials suspect an electrical short-circuit at the first shop has triggered the fire. "The exact amount of loss could not be ascertained immediately," he said.
Jazira Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sadia Islam Luna said that the amount of damage will be assessed after visiting the scene.
"The government will assist the affected traders if they seek help," she added.
