Hasan Mahmud needs to go abroad for medical examination: BCB chief physician
Young right-arm Bangladeshi pacer Hasan Mahmud needs to go abroad for the diagnosis of his health problem, chief physician of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has said.
Hasan sustained a back injury during Bangladesh’s New Zealand tour this year. After that, he was rested for a few days, and started his rehabilitation under the national team physio.

He had also started bowling with 50% effort, but that did not work well for him as the pain resurfaced which has forced him to sit out for more than five months.
“He has been under our observation for a long time,” Debashis Chowdhury, the chief physician of BCB, told the reporters on Thursday.
“We have examined him in many ways on different occasions, but we couldn’t find any big problem. We think he requires a biomechanical assessment to find out his problem.”
There is no biomechanical assessment facility in Bangladesh and so the pacer needs to go abroad to find one, said Debashis.
“We are trying to send him somewhere we can get a biomechanical assessment facility. But there are some restrictions put in place due to the Covid-19 situation around the globe. We have been in constraint contacts with some countries. I think it would be possible to send him for assessment within the next two-three weeks,” Debashis added.

The 21-year-old pacer was inducted to international cricket in 2020 with a T20I match against Zimbabwe in Dhaka. He later got his ODI cap against the West Indies in Dhaka early this year.
Hasan represented the country in three ODIs and a solitary T20I, and scalped five wickets in ODIs with the best figures of taking three wickets conceding 28 runs. He is yet to register any wicket in T20Is.
The pacer also played 14 First-class, 19 List-A and 23 T20 matches so far where he bagged 83 wickets in total.
Tamim set to fly for Nepal to take part in EPL
Bangladesh star opener Tamim Iqbal is all set to fly for Nepal on Thursday night to take part in Everest Premier League (EPL) T20. Tamim will represent Bhairahawa Gladiators in this event.
Tamim was suffering from a knee injury which forced him to sit out of action for a while. He missed both the home series against Australia and New Zealand recently. He last played a competitive cricket match in Zimbabwe early this year.

Debashis Chowdhury, the chief physician of BCB, confirmed that Tamim would fly for Neplan on Thursday night. He also said Tamim is close to getting fully fit.
“Tamim was advised to go through a rehabilitation process after the Zimbabwe series. He has been working so hard to get fit. He was working under the guidance of the physio of the national team. He started to bat for the last three days, and he has no complaints. We believe he will be able to play EPL well,” Debashis told the reporters on Thursday in Mirpur.
The decision of Tamim to take part in EPL is part of his rehabilitation process. If he can play well in EPL, it would be determined that the batter is fully fit to play with his full effort.
“Tamim is confident after completing half his rehabilitation process. He has been doing all the skill training without any problem. But playing in a real cricket match is something different. He needs to play competitive cricket to see if he is really fit. In that sense, playing in the EPL is very important for Tamim,” Debashis added.

Tamim sustained the blow on his knee in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League in early this year. Due to the blow, he missed the super league stage. He, however, took part in the ODI series in Zimbabwe despite not being fully fit.
Weeks ago, Tamim withdrew himself from the T20 World Cup citing lack of match times. At the same time, he confirmed that he is not retiring from the shorter format of the game of cricket.
The EPL will kick off on September 25 at Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground. Along with the Gladiators, Biratnagar Warriors, Chitwan Tigers, Kathmandu Kings XI, Lalitpur Patriots and Pokhara Rhinos are also taking part in the EPL.
IPL 2021: Will Shakib Al Hasan Play in a crucial MI vs. KKR match?
Kolkata Knight Riders resumed their IPL 2021 campaign in Abu Dhabi with a 9-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore. Kolkata's bowling unit was outstanding in the match. Bangalore were bowled out for 92 runs, and Kolkata needed only 10 overs to reach the target. Kolkata could deploy their winning eleven in the MI vs. KKR match on Thursday (September 23) in Abu Dhabi, thus Shakib Al Hasan's chance of making the playing XI is minimal. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians restarted their season with a 20-run loss against Chennai Super Kings. They will be eager to regain their winning rhythm.

MI vs. KKR: Team News
With 8 points, the Mumbai Indians are in fifth place, while the Kolkata Knight Riders are in sixth place with 6 points. The 14th season of the IPL is currently at a pivotal moment, with each team vying for a top spot in the standings. Losing a match means a big drop in the points table, and net run rate is an important consideration as well.
Two of Mumbai Indians' key players Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya did not participate in the match against Chennai Super Kings. These two might play in the match against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Aside from that, any changes to the Mumbai playing XI are unlikely.

Most runs (Mumbai): Rohit Sharma (250) | Most Wickets (Mumbai): Rahul Chahar (11)
Probable Playing XI (Mumbai):
Rohit Sharma (captain), Quinton de Kock (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Adam Milne, Rahul Chahar, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah
The Kolkata Knight Riders are unlikely to make any changes to their lineup. For Kolkata, Andre Russell, Varun Chakravarthy, and Lockie Ferguson were all outstanding with the ball against Bangalore. Batsmen had little trouble chasing down the target after a superb bowling performance. As a result, Eoin Morgan and the rest of the team will put their faith in these players to confront the defending IPL champion Mumbai Indians. Shakib Al Hasan will have to wait till the next match if Kolkata stick with the same lineup. Shakib has to play more regularly in order to thrive in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Head-to-Head: MI vs. KKR
Mumbai Indians have an excellent recent record against Kolkata Knight Riders. They have won 12 times in the past 13 meetings with Kolkata. So, Knight Riders have recently found it difficult to compete with the Indians.
Both teams have played each other 28 times in total. Mumbai leads the head-to-head record with 22 victories, while Kolkata have only won 6 games.

Bottom Line
Kolkata Knight Riders are in desperate need of a win, as they have only 6 points from their first eight games. Knight Riders must win at least four more matches in the next six in order to qualify for the playoffs. It's crucial for the Kolkata team to keep their winning streak intact. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians have 8 points from 8 games and need to win at least three of their remaining matches. Therefore, we may anticipate a competitive clash between these two teams, with the winner moving up the IPL 2021 points table.

Bangladesh cricket fraternity pays homage to Jalal Chowdhury
Veteran cricket coach, journalist and author Jalal Ahmed Chowdhury breathed his last on Tuesday at a Dhaka hospital. He was 74.
His demise cast a pall of gloom over the country’s sports arena and among cricket players, writers and commentators in particular. The cricket fraternity said a tearful farewell to him.
Jalal had been suffering from lung infection and respiratory problems. He was admitted to the hospital in early September. After feeling slightly better he returned home, but on the night of September 14, he was brought to the hospital again and admitted to the ICU.
Since his condition kept deteriorating over time, he was put in ventilation. After more than a couple of days in ventilation, Jalal breathed his last on Tuesday morning.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) expressed profound sadness on his death addressing him as “former National Team coach”, “cricket analyst”, “cricketer” and “eminent sportswriter”.
During the mid-1960s, Jalal started his cricket career in the Dhaka League as an opening batsman and wicketkeeper for the Udity Club.
He later played for the Young Pegasus, Town Club and Dhanmondi Club and represented Bangladesh Railway in the National Championship competition. He was a member of the first Bangladesh side in post-independence Bangladesh (Tour of MCC in 1977).
“It’s difficult to say goodbye to whom you started your cricketing life with,” Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Bangladesh’s former captain said on his social media handle.
“Your calmness in the dressing room, your orders to do something, playing under your coaching— everything is now just memory. Who saw your contribution to Bangladesh cricket, will remember you forever. May Allah grants you Jannah,” he added.
Bangladesh’s Test captain Mominul Haque also paid homage to his “favourite coach”, and asked to pray for his place in heaven.
Many senior and young sports journalists also paid homage to the deceased. Arifur Rahman Babu, a veteran journalist, said that Jalal Ahmed was “a great source of inspiration” for the sportswriters in Bangladesh.
“He was a father figure for all of us, he was a guardian, he was an advisor, a well-wisher. I was so close to him. We will obviously miss him forever,” Arifur, who is a special correspondent at JagoNews24, wrote on his social media handle.
Ariful Islam Roney, another journalist, addressed Jalal Ahmed as ambidextrous. He wrote on his social media handle: “Jalal bhai was ambidextrous. He played many roles in his life. But to me, he had always been a true cricket-lover.”
Among his many roles, Jalal Ahmed was a general secretary of the Bangladesh Sports Journalist Association (BSJA). He was the chief election commissioner in the last election of BSJA.
Jalal received his diploma in cricket coaching from the National Institute of Sports in Patiala, India in 1979 and subsequently coached prominent Dhaka League teams Abahani, Mohammedan, Victoria, Shadharan Bima, Azad Sporting, PWD, Dhanmondi Club and Kalabagan.
In his distinguished coaching career, Jalal had been associated with the Bangladesh national cricket team on a number of occasions. He was one of the coaches of the Bangladesh 1979 and 1997 ICC Trophy squads. He was the head coach of Bangladesh in the ICC U19 World Cup in 2002.
Jalal was one of the rare journalists in Bangladesh, who was fluent both in Bangla and English writing. He worked at the New Nation newspaper for more than a decade. He wrote for almost all main national Bangla dailies published from Dhaka.
He had also served the BCB as a member of its different standing committees which include Game Development, Cricket Operations and the Umpires Committee.
Minister of the Ministry of Youth & Sports - Bangladesh, Zahid Ahsan Russel, also paid homage to Jalal Ahmed. In his condolence message, Zahid Ahsan said: “The death of Jalal Ahmed came as an irreplaceable damage for Bangladesh's sports arena.”

Shamim eager to deliver in his maiden T20 World Cup
Bangladesh’s U-19 World Cup-winning hero Shamim Hossain said he is eager to play and do well in the T20 World Cup due to begin next month in Oman.
Shamim already started individual training to prepare for the big challenge.
On Monday he talked to the reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium exuding high confidence in his ability to perform well and prove the selectors right.
“I’m a bit lucky that I’m getting a chance to represent Bangladesh in the World Cup,” Shamim told the media. “At the same time, it’s a new challenge for me as well. I’m confident that I will deliver well in the World Cup.”
Shamim has been a wonderful batsman and outstanding fielder during his U-19 cricketing years. He carried his zeal to the domestic circuit as well which helped him earn the maiden call to the national team ahead of this year’s Zimbabwe tour.
The left-handed batsman took no time to shine for the Tigers. In his T20I debut, he scored 29 off 13 balls, and in the second, he posted unbeaten 31 off 15 balls which eventually proved to be a match-winning knock.
“I didn't set any specific target for the World Cup yet, but since it’s my first chance, I will try my best to do well. It’s a big achievement for me to be a part of Bangladesh’s World Cup squad. I have plenty to learn from the senior players of the national team,” he added.
The experience of winning the U-19 World Cup will help in many ways to perform up to the expectation in the World Cup, Shamim said.
“I understand the expectation will be high this time. I will have to play with many world-class players. It’s a big challenge, and I’m upbeat to take this challenge,” Shamim added.
The 21-year-old batsman was unable to continue his good form against Australia in the home series that Bangladesh won 4-1. He also failed to do well in the only match he played against New Zealand at home. On both occasions the wicket was friendly to the bowlers.
“The wickets matter a lot (to do well for the batsmen). I think the wickets will be better in the World Cup (than the wicket of Bangladesh). I believe the senior players of our team will do great things in the World Cup,” he said.
Kohli to step down from Bangalore captaincy after IPL season
Virat Kohli will step down as captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore at the end of this season's Indian Premier League.
Kohli had already announced he will relinquish the captaincy of India in the Twenty20 format after the T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates in October and November.
“(I’ve) spoken to the squad this evening, before the second leg of the tournament starts, to inform everyone that this is going to be my last leg in the IPL as captain of our city,” Kohli said in a video message posted on RCB’s Twitter account on Sunday.

“(This was) something that was on my mind for a while … to manage my workload which has been immense over the last so many years. I want to continue to be committed to the responsibilities that I’m fulfilling, and I felt I needed the space to refresh, to regroup and be absolutely clear in how I want to move forward.”
Kohli has led Bangalore since 2013 but has not yet won the world's most lucrative T20 league. Kohli said he will continue with Bangalore as a player.
“I’ve made it clear to the management that, you know, I can’t think of me being in any other team than RCB,” he said. “That has been my commitment from Day 1 (and) I will continue to be RCB player till I play my last game in the IPL.”

Bangalore is currently third after winning five of its seven games in India before the IPL was suspended in May due to coronavirus. The league resumed in the United Arab Emirates on Sunday with Chennai Super Kings beating defending champions Mumbai Indians by 20 runs.
Bangalore plays Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday.
