Men's Asian 5s Hockey: Bangladesh taste first victory beating Japan by 10-3 goals
Bangladesh Men's Hockey team tasted its first victory in the 11-nation Men's Asian Hockey five-a-side (5s) World Cup Qualifier after conceding three successive defeats, beating Japan by 10-3 goals in Salalah, Oman, on Thursday.
The winners dominated the first half by 4-1 goals.

Earlier, Bangladesh was placed in a six-nation elite group with India, Pakistan, Japan, Malaysia, and host Oman, while the five-team challenger group consists of Afghanistan, Iran, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Kazakhstan.
Bangladesh made a frustrating start in the meet, losing to India by 1-15 goals, suffering a 6-15 goals defeat against Pakistan in the second match, and conceding their third defeat in a row, losing to Malaysia by 5-10 goals.

In their 4th group match on Thursday afternoon, Deen Mohammad Emon and Saiful Alam Shisir scored hattricks, scoring three goals each, while Sarowar Murshed Shawon and Abeduddin scored two goals each for Bangladesh.
In the remaining elite group match, Bangladesh is due to play the host Oman on Thursday night at 10 pm at the same venue.

In the newly introduced five-a-side Asian Hockey, Bangladesh scored 22 goals and conceded 43 in the four elite group matches.

Bangladesh Men's Hockey team suffered its third consecutive defeat in the 11-nation Men's Asian Hockey five-a-side (5s) World Cup Qualifier, losing to Pakistan and Malaysia on the second day of the meet held in Salalah, Oman, on Wednesday.
Bangladesh suffered a 6-15 goals defeat against Pakistan in their second Elite Group match Wednesday afternoon and conceded their third defeat in a row, losing to Malaysia by 5-10 goals Wednesday evening.

Earlier, Bangladesh made a start in the Asian Hockey Meet with a 15-1 goals defeat against their giant rivals India in the first match at the same venue on Tuesday evening.

Men's Asian 5s Hockey: Bangladesh pummelled 15-1 by India
Bangladesh Men's Hockey team made a frustrating start in the 11-nation Men's Asian Hockey five-a-side (5s) World Cup Qualifier after suffering a humiliating 15-1 goals defeat against India in their opening day held in Salalah, Oman Tuesday evening.
Bangladesh were trailing by 1-7 goals in the first half against their giant neighbor India.

Sarowar Morshed Shawon scored the lone goal for Bangladesh in the very 2nd minute of the match by a field goal.
Earlier, Bangladesh was placed in the six- nation Elite group with India, Pakistan, Japan, Malaysia and hosts Oman while five-team Challenger group consists of Afghanistan, Iran, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Kazakhstan.

In the remaining elite group matches, Bangladesh will play Pakistan on Aug 30 at 2 pm, Malaysia on the same day at 8 pm, Japan on Aug 31 at 2pm and hosts Oman, also on August 31 at 10pm (all times local).

Bangladesh national men's hockey reached Oman on Saturday to take part in the eleven-nation qualifying round of the meet to be held between August 29 to September 2.
Bangladesh Men’s team : Asim Gope, Sarowar Hossain, Mahbub Hossain, Shafiul Alam Shishir, Deen Islam Imon, Sarowar Morshed Shawon, Raju Ahmed Topu and Abed Ullah.
28th National School Handball begins
The Polar Ice Cream 28th National School Handball (Boys & Girls) Tournament began here on Tuesday with BCIC College making a good start beating South Breeze School by 3-2 goals in the official opening match for the boys.
Twelve more matches --six for boys and six for girls --were also decided on the first day.

CEO of the meet' s sponsor Dhaka Ice Cream ( Polar Ice Cream) Industries Limited Shah Masud Imam inaugurated the meet as the chief guest at the Shaheed Capt ( Retd) M Monsur Ali National Handball Stadium here.
General Secretary of Bangladesh Handball Federation (BHF) Asaduzzaman Kohinoor presided over the day's inaugural function.

Twenty four teams are competing in the boys competition while 19 teams are taking part in the girls group at the Shaheed Capt ( Retd) M Monsur Ali National Handball Stadium and Sheikh Russel Roller Skating complex respectively.

Final matches of both the boys and girls groups will be held on September 4.
Asian 5s Hockey: Bangladesh women's team finish 8th
Bangladesh Women's Hockey team finished miserably in 8th place in the 10-team Women's Asian Hockey five-a-side (5s) World Cup Qualifiers, losing to Chinese Taipei 8-5 in their last game in Salalah, Oman on Monday.
The 7th place deciding match between two teams was locked in 4-4 goals in the first half.

With the day's feat, the Chinese Taipei women's not only finished 7th in the meet ahead of Bangladesh but also took sweet revenge of their 5-10 goals defeat against Bangladesh in the group match last week.
In the last match of their first-ever five-a-side international hockey tournament, Bangladesh's best player Orpita Pal scored four goals while Irin Akhter Riya scored one against the Chinese Taipei.

Earlier in the group matches, Bangladesh beat Chinese Taipei by 10-5 goals, Iran by 9-3 goals and hosts Oman by 9-2 goals and conceded 4-7 goals defeat against Indonesia and 7-10 goals defeat against Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Men's team will start their campaign in the Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier against India on Tuesday (August 29) also in Salalah, Oman.
Bangladesh national men's hockey reached Oman on Saturday to take part in the eleven-nation qualifying round of the meet to be held between August 29 to September 2.

28th National School Handball begins Tuesday
The Polar Ice Cream 28th National School Handball (Boys & Girls) Tournament begins here on Tuesday.
Twenty four teams, split into eight groups will compete in the boys competition while 19 teams, divided in six groups, will participate in the girls group.

Initially, the matches will be held in two city venues ---Shaheed Capt ( Retd) M Monsur Ali National Handball Stadium and Sheikh Russel Roller Skating complex here.
Final matches of both the boys and girls groups will be held on September 4.
General Secretary of Bangladesh Handball Federation (BHF) Asaduzzaman Kohinoor disclosed the details of the meet at a press conference at the federation meeting room on Sunday.
BHF vice- president and tournament organizing committee chairman Golam Habib and tournament secretary Salim Mia Babu also spoke on the occasion.

Out of the tournament's total budget Tk 17.50 lakh, the meet's sponsor Polar Ice Cream will provide Tk 15 lakh.
Team Jersey of the tournament were also unveiled on the occasion.

Bangladesh Women's Hockey team conceded 7-10 goal defeat against stronger Hong Kong in a keenly contested group match of the Women's Asian Hockey five-a-side (5s) World Cup Qualifier held in Salalah, Oman on Sunday (August 26).

With the day' s defeat, Bangladesh finished 3rd in the six- team Challenger group securing nine points from all five matches and will play group's 4th ranked team Chinese Taipei in the 7th place deciding match on Monday.
After the group matches, Hong Kong emerged champions in challenger group with all-win run securing full 15 points, Indonesia became group runners up with 12 points while Chinese Taipei finished 4th with six points.

In the day's crucial match, the winners dominated the first half by 4-3 goal.
Orpita Pal scored three, Fardia Akhter Ratri contributed two while Irin Akhter Riya and Kona Akhter one each for Bangladesh in the day's match.
However, Bangladesh women' s team, which playing the international hockey after about four years, made a brilliant results in their first-ever five- a- side international hockey tournament.

Bangladesh team, riding on hattricks by Orpita Pal and Irin Akhter Riya, tasted the first victory in their 2nd match of the ongoing meet Friday afternoon outplaying Chinese Taipei by 10-5 goals after suffering 4-7 goals defeat against Indonesia in the opening match on the same day (Friday)
In their 3nd match Saturday morning, Bangladesh women's team comfortably dominated the first half by 5-1 goals over Iran.
Irin Akhter Riya scored four goals for Bangladesh and was adjudged the best player of the match while Orpita Pal scored three, Mukta Khatun and Kona Akhter scored one each for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh women's team face hosts Oman Saturday (August 26) night and will play their last group with Hong Kong on Sunday (August 27).
Earlier, Bangladesh was placed in Challengers Pool with Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, Iran and hosts Oman while India, Japan, Malaysia and Thailand put in Elite Pool.
Three teams from the qualifying round earn the rights to play World Cup Hockey.

Abu Dhabi Chess: GM Ziaur Rahman finishes 13th
Grand Master Ziaur Rahman of Bangladesh finished 13th in the 29th Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival, Masters event, securing six points after the 9th and last round matches held in the UAE city of Abu Dhabi on Thursday.
After the day's last round matches, GM Ziaur Rahman bagged 6 points to share the 8th place jointly with some other players, But, he was placed 13th in the tie-breaking system.
IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman of Bangladesh became 79th with 4 5 points, FM Tahsin Tazwar Zia was placed 113th with 3.5 points while GM Enamul Hossain Razib finished 123rd with 3 points.
In the day's 9th and last round matches, GM Ziaur Rahman won against GM Varthik Venkataraman of India, IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman drew with IM Dushyant Sharma of India, FM Tahsin Tajwar Zia won against FM Abdulrahman Mohammad Al Taher of UAE while GM Enamul Hossain lost to IM Aziz Husain of Qatar.
GM Fedoseev Vladimir of Slovenia became champion and GM Xu Xiangyu of China finished runner-up, securing 7 points each.
A total 145 players from 24 countries including 41 grandmasters, 6 women’s grandmasters, 54 International Masters and 3 women’s International Masters participated in the event.
