Club Cup Hockey: Dhaka Mariner Youngs Club retain title beating Abahani 2-0 in final
Dhaka Mariner Youngs Club retained the six-team 13th Club Cup Hockey title beating their old rivals Dhaka Abahani Limited by 2-0 goals in the final at the floodlight Moulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium here Saturday evening.
Dhaka Mariner Youngs clinched their first Club Cup Hockey crown also beating Dhaka Abahani Ltd by 3-0 goals in the final in 2021.
President of Bangladesh Hockey Federation and Chief of Bangladesh Air Force Air Chief Marshall Sheikh Abdul Hannan witnessed the day's final as the chief guest and later he distributed the trophies.
In the day's final, Indian player Dipok Malik put Mariner Youngs ahead in the 19th minute by field goals (1-0) while captain Fazle Hossain Rabby sealed the fate of the scoring the 2nd goal in the 45th minute from a penalty stroke (2-0).Later, Fazle Hossain Rabby was adjudged the best player of the final.
Ten national players studded Dhaka Abahani failed to show their usual performances in the match spoiled some six penalty corners.
Ashraful Islam of Dhaka Abahani named as the best player of the tournament.

1000 runners call for a greener city at Hatirjheel
Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center (BYLC), a leadership institute, organized a 7.5 km run in Hatirjheel in association with the Ministry of Youth and Sport to raise awareness on reducing air pollution by creating the city green.
Supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the BYLC Running with Purpose 2024 event saw the participation of around 1000 runners of diverse backgrounds, said a press release.
By bringing hundreds of youth, children, and adults to run through part of the city, the run drew attention to the importance of clean air and a greener city, focusing on Sustainable Development Goal 3 (good health and wellbeing) & 11 (Green City) which underscores the urgency to take action to combat air pollution and its impacts through making the surroundings greener.

Dhaka's air quality over recent years, consistently placing it among the world's worst. He urged the ordinary citizens to actively contribute to creating a greener city while emphasizing the need to hold elected officials accountable for improving air quality in Dhaka.
Md. Khorshed Alam, Technical Judge, Bangladesh Athletics Federation, was also present at the event and appreciated BYLC's initiative in making Bangladesh a better place to live.
Tahsinah Ahmed, Executive Director, BYLC concluded the program by sharing her vote of thanks at the closing ceremony.

In a battle of two former champions, coming from behind, Dhaka Abahani Limited qualified for the final of the six-team 13th Club Cup Hockey Tournament'2024 eliminating their traditional rivals Dhaka Mohammedan SC by 3-2 goals in a keenly contested 2nd semifinal at the Moulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium on Thursday evening.
Dhaka Abahani Ltd will now play final on Saturday (March 2) at 6 pm at the same venue against defending champions Dhaka Mariner Youngs Club, which smartly booked seat for the final outplaying Usha KC by 8-4 goals in the first semifinal on Thursday afternoon.
In the day's 2nd semis, Roman Sarkar scored twice and Pushkar Kisha Mimo contributed one for the sky-blue Dhanmondi outfit Abahani while Amirul Islam and Netherlands forward Charl Ulrich scored one each for the traditional black and whites Mohammedan.
Amirul Islam put Mohammedan ahead in the 4th minute from a penalty corner (1-0) while Pushkar Kisha Mimo leveled the margin for Abahani in the 8th minute (1-1).

Asian Indoor Athletics: Bangladesh's Jahir Rayhan clinches silver in 400-meter sprint
Mohammad Jahir Rayhan brought laurel for Bangladesh by clinching first ever silver medal in the Men's 400-meter sprint of the Asian Indoor Athletics held in Tehran Sunday night.
He was the 2nd Bangladeshi athlete after the gold medalist Imranur Rahman, who win a medal in the Asian level meet.
Jahir Rayhan, won first-ever Asian silver medal for Bangladesh as he finished 2nd in the 400-meter sprint with a timing of 48.10 seconds.
Earlier, Imranur Rahman, the fastest man of Bangladesh for the last three consecutive times, reached the semifinal in his favourite 60-meter sprint of the Asian Indoor Athletics held in the Iranian capital Tehran also on Sunday.Imranur Rahman, the current gold medalist of the Asian 60- meter sprint, competed in the event's heats number-3 and finished 2nd with a timing of 6.62 seconds on Sunday.
He was ranked 4th in overall heats to reach the semifinals.
Ali Anwar of Oman clinched top slot in heats number -3 clocking 6.56 seconds.
Another Bangladeshi athlete Rakibul also took part in heats number 4 of the event and finished 4th with a timing of 6.87 seconds.
The 30-year-old England-based Bangladesh origin athlete Imranur Rahman brought laurels for the country as he emerged as the first Bangladeshi athlete to win the first- ever Asian gold medal in the men's 60- meter sprint of the 10th Asian Indoor Athletics held in Astana, Kazakhstan February last year.
The event's semifinals are scheduled to be held Sunday night while the final is billed for Monday.
Another Bangladeshi athlete Jahir Raihan will compete in the 400-meter sprint final Sunday night.
Five athletes of the Bangladesh team are: Imranur Rahman, Rakibul Hasan (60-meter sprint), Zahir Raihan (400-meter sprint), Mahfuzur Rahman (High Jump) and Shirin Akhter (60-meter sprint).
