Dhaka, Sept 10 (UNB) – Law enforcers on Monday arrested five people over the alleged gang-rape of a housewife and rape of a girl in Cumilla and Faridpur districts.
In Cumilla, police arrested four people over the ‘gang-rape’ of a housewife for four days after confining her to a house of Ballavpur village in Sadar South upazila.
The arrestees are Masud Ali, 28, son of Sayed Ali, Masud, 30, son of Abdul Barek of Rajendrapur village in Sadar upazila, Hasan Miah, 26, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver and son of Saru Miah of Dhanpur area, and their accomplice Swapna Akhter, 27, wife of Shahid Miah of Ballavpur village.
Police were trying to arrest another accused, Shahid, in a case filed over the incident.
Officer-in-charge of Sadar South Model Police Station Mamunur Rashid said the victim, wife of an expatriate, was returning home at Ulurchar from her parents’ house at Suagazi by the auto-rickshaw of Hasan on September 5.
However, the three-wheeler driver took her to a house of Ballavpur village.
After confining the housewife to the house, the miscreants raped her for four days.
They also took photos of the nefarious act and demanded Tk 5 lakh from her.
The victim managed to escape from the confinement on Saturday and filed the case on Monday.
In Faridpur, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members arrested Md Sumon Mollah alias Golzar Mollah, 35, as he allegedly raped a girl, took video clip of the heinous act and spread it on the internet.
Sumon, a mason hailing from Ramjan Matubbarpara village in Goalanda upazila of Rajbari district, was arrested from the old bus stand area of the district town.
Company Commander of Rab-8 Faridpur camp Additional Police Superintendent Md Rais Uddin said Sumon raped the victim three months back and secretly recorded it in his mobile phone.
Since then, he had been blackmailing the victim and her family demanding money and threatening to spread the video on the internet.
As the victim came to know that the video was already available on the internet, she informed it to Rab.
Two cases -- one under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and the other under the Pornography Control Act -- were filed over the matter.
