Besides, 45 people were diagnosed with the deadly virus in 10 districts on the day.
According to the reports reaching the UNB news desk, Narayanganj recorded the highest number of deaths from Covid-19 in the 24 hours till Sunday noon.
The deadly virus claimed three lives there, pushing up the total death toll in the district to 42, said civil surgeon’s office.
They, however, did not disclose the number of people who have been identified during the period.
In Shariatpur, a 45-year-old man who tested positive for coronavirus on April 19 died at his residence in Damudya upazila in the afternoon.
Dr Sheikh Mostafa Khokon, health and family planning officer of Bhedarganj upazila, confirmed the information.
Besides, seven more tested positive for coronavirus in Bhedarganj, taking the total number of confirmed cases in the district to 20, he added.
In Sylhet, a five-year-old boy died from coronavirus while undergoing treatment at the isolation unit of Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital, raising the death toll in the district to three.
Dr Anisur Rahman, assistant director at the local health office, said the boy had been suffering from liver problems and later got infected with the coronavirus.
In Rajshahi, Covid-19 claimed the life of an elderly man who was being treated at the isolation unit of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in the morning.
The deceased was identified as Abdus Sobhan, 80, a resident of Gawpara village in Bagha upazila.
RMCH Deputy Director Dr Saiful Ferdous said this is the first coronavirus death in the district.
Sobhan was admitted to the isolation unit of the hospital with fever and breathing complications on April 17. He was diagnosed with coronavirus on April 20, the doctor added.
In Kurigram, two children died with fever and cold in Nageshwari and Bhuruingamari upazilas.
Dr Abu Bakar Siddique, health and family planning officer of Nageshwari, said a six-month-old child, son of Mobarak Ali of Kuti Naodanga village, died with fever in the morning while undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Meanwhile, Nazifa, 6, daughter of Riazul Islam in Bhurungamari upazila, died with fever at her residence in early hours of the day.
Dr SM Sayem, a medical officer at Bhurungamari Health Complex, confirmed the information, saying the minor girl's father has recently returned from Dhaka.
Apart from these, three members of a family were diagnosed with COVID-19 at Pathanpara in Sadar upazila.
In Laxmipur, a youth - Jashim, 35, son of Abdul Wadud of Balurchar vilalge - died at his residence in Ramgati upazila in the morning.
Ramgati Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abdul Momin said Jashim had been suffering from fever, cold and respiratory problems for the last few days.
In Jashore, 14 people were diagnosed with coronavirus on Sunday, taking the total number of infection in the district to 29.
Civil Surgeon Sheikh Abu Shahin confirmed the development, saying they were found positive in tests done at Jessore University of Science and Technology.
Meanwhile, two people, including a physician, tested positive for coronavirus in Keshabpur upazila. Dr Zahidur Rahman, resident medical officer of Keshabpur Upazila Health Complex, said an assistant medical officer of the hospital has been diagnosed with coronavirus. He is aged 32.
The residences of the patients were put under lockdown, said Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nusrat Jahan Popy.
In Narail, three people, including an official of the deputy commissioner’s office, were diagnosed with coronavirus.
Civil Surgeon Dr Md Abdul Momen confirmed the development, saying the DC office staffer was identified as Md Dulal Hossain. The two others are residents of Lohagara upazila.
In Magura, two people were diagnosed with coronavirus, raising the total number in the district to four.
They are from Jaria village in Shreepur upazila and Bagherpara upazila of Jashore.
Magura Civil Surgeon Dr Pradip Kumar Saha said they counted the patient who came from Jashore to Shalikha Upazila Health Complex for coronavirus test. The other is a garment worker who recently returned home from Gazipur.
The residences of all Covid-19 patients in the district were put under lockdown to avoid further transmission of coronavirus in the community, he added.
In Joypurhat, two more people tested positive for coronavirus, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the district to six.
Joypurhat Civil Surgeon Dr Selim Mia said one of the patients is a young girl, 20, from Kalai upazila while the other is a young man from Akkelpur upazila in the district.
In Chattogram, two more people were diagnosed with coronavirus on Sunday that took the number of confirmed cases in the district to 46.
The new patients, aged 30-40 years, are from Agrabad and Halishahar, according to the civil surgeon office.
In Jhenaidah, seven people were diagnosed with coronavirus, taking the number of such patients in the district to 9.
Civil Surgeon Dr Selina Begum confirmed the development, saying they were found to be infected with the deadly virus in tests at Jessore University of Science and Technology.
In Kushtia, four people, including a physician, tested positive. With the latest ones, the total number of Covid-19 patients in the district has reached 11.
Dr Nazmul Munir, a medical officer at the district civil surgeon’s office, said Dr Syeda Tasmina Tabassum, a physician at the Mirpur Health Complex, is among the newly identified patients.
The three other patients are from Daulatpur upazila, he added.
In Kishoreganj, only one more person was diagnosed with coronavirus in Kishoreganj in the last 24 hours till Sunday night.
With the latest one, the number of Covid-19 patients in the district stood at 176.
Dr Md Mujibur Rahman, civil surgeon of the district, confirmed the development, saying the newly identified patient is from Sadar upazila.
“A total of 228 samples were sent to Dhaka on Thursday for test. We’ve so far received results of 113 samples and found one of them to be infected with coronavirus,” he added.
Among the total confirmed cases, three were identified after their death.
Bangladesh has so for recorded 5,416 cases and 145 deaths from the deadly virus.
According to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research, 145 people have so far lost their lives after being diagnosed with the coronavirus while 5,416 people tested positive across the country.
When it comes to the global context, the virus claimed 202,832 lives and infected 2,896,633 people as of Sunday.
