Dhaka, Jul 9 (UNB) – The Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges on Tuesday urged the people not to pay heed to a rumour about the need for human sacrifice for the Padma Bridge project.
A notice, signed by Project Director Md Shafikul Islam, was issued on Tuesday.
The ministry said it had noticed propaganda by a certain group on social media. “It’s a rumour. Spreading such rumour is a criminal offence,” the ministry said, requesting people not to believe in it.
Meanwhile, the 14th span of the Padma Bridge was installed on Saturday afternoon making 2,100 metres of the mega structure visible.
Work on the bridge started in December 2015.
The 6.15-kilometre bridge is expected to boost the GDP by 1.2 percent once it is in operation.
