Dhaka, Jul 25 (UNB) – International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) sent the central assistant secretary of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Hamidur Rahaman Azad, to jail after he surrendered before it on Wednesday.
A three-member bench led by Judge Md Shahinur Islam passed the order after rejecting his bail application.
Earlier on June 9 in 2013, ICT sentenced Hamidur Rahaman for three months jail on charge of contempt of court as he delivered speech criticizing the ICT and its judgments during a public rally at Shapla Chattar in the capital on February 4 of the same year.
Hamidur remained absconding since then.
Advocate Abdus Subhan Tarafdar and Abdus Sattar Palowan were on the side of Hamidur while Advocate Ziad Al Malum stood as prosecutor.
Hamidur Rahman Azad was elected to Parliament in 2008 from Cox's Bazar-2 as a Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate.
He served in the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Water Resources.
