“We filed complaints with Interpol against Jisan 15 years ago,” the minister said. “UAE informed us after arresting him. We’re taking initiatives to get him back quickly. We hope to bring him back very soon.”
After the arrest of Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan, it was reportedly learned that Jisan was running casino business in Bangladesh from Dubai. When asked if he was arrested as part of the anti-casino drive, the minister said it was not important whether he was involved in casino business or tender manipulation.
Bangladesh had announced a Tk 15 lakh award on December 27, 2001 for information about 23 notorious criminals in the capital and Jisan was one of them.
He was reportedly involved in extortion and criminal activities in Gulshan, Banani and Badda and other parts of the capital. His name came to limelight after two officers of Detective Branch were shot dead at a residential hotel in Malibagh in 2003.
He fled to India two years later and then moved to Dubai after managing an Indian passport and changed his name to Ali Akbar Chowdhury. Interpol issued a red alert in his name.
“We’ll bring him back because he’s a top criminal,” the Home Minister said. “We’ve initiated the process.”
