“The cruelest chapter in the history of Bangladesh was written on August 15. On this day, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib, the pioneer of independence, the political thoughts and the Liberation War of Bangladesh, was assassinated along with most of his family members. It’s a shameful day for the nation,’’ he said.
B Chowdhury, also a former President, said, “So, on this day of his assassination, we’ve to take a vow to materialise the dreams cherished by Bangabandhu.”
He made the remarks while virtually speaking at a discussion organised by BDB at its Badda central office on the occasion of Bangabandhu's 45th martyrdom anniversary.
B Chowdhury said those who deny Bangabandhu, they deny the existence of Bangladesh, the Liberation War and the map of Bangladesh. “Despite facing death, he did not back off from his demand for independence. Such an instance is rare in the whole world. He had limitless love for the people of the country.”
He said Bangabandhu's speech on March 7 is a precious resource in the history of the world which was recognised by UNESCO. “So, those who deny Bangabandhu, they’ll deny Bangladesh. Those who don’t respect Bangabandhu they don’t respect the people of the country and the Liberation War.”
The BDB chief said Bangabandhu never expressed hatred towards the opposition and his rivals. “We also think that no one becomes big by hating, and no one becomes little by respecting others. This is the declared principle of Bikalpa Dhara.”
Stating that the Father of the Nation loved people and the country synonymously, B Chowdhury said his greatest courage was his love for people which was also his greatest weakness. “This extraordinary patriotic man will ever alive in the minds of the people of Bangladesh.”
He called upon Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina not to budge even a step from the ideals of Bangabandhu. "There’re many qualities in you that match Bangabandhu. We hope you’ll be inspired by Bangabandhu's ideals. Economic development is the last word, and you have to make sure the poor people of the country can live happily in peace.”
