A patient suffering from cold, fever and cough who was admitted to the isolation ward of Sadar Hospital, died on Wednesday.
Superintendent of the Sadar Hospital Munir Ahmed said the patient of Kolargao village in Naria upazila was admitted to the isolation ward with cold, fever and breathing complications on Tuesday.
Later, he died on Wednesday afternoon as his condition worsened, he said.
Samples of the deceased were collected and sent to the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) for coronavirus or COVID-19 test, he added.
Deputy Commissioner Kazi Abu Taher said local administration has put family members of the deceased and another 18 families of his neighbourhood under quarantine.
Meanwhile, three more people died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours, raising death toll to 20, according to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).
Besides, 54 people tested positive for COVID-19 during the period, raising the number of such cases in the country to 218, said IEDCR.
