People mostly workers thronged into the Shimulia Ghat of Munshiganj district to go to Narayanganj and Dhaka.
Sirajul Islam, in-charge of Mawa River police camp, said “Some 2000 people have reached at the Shimulia ghat area by three ferries and left for their workplace through Mawa point.”
Policemen and Army, in Kathalia ghat helped them to board the ferries after ensuring their identities, he said
As the plying of public transport remained suspended following the lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, the capital and Narayanganj-bound people left for their designated destinations by human hauler and auto-rickshaw with excessive fares, facing huge trouble.
Some people were seen travelling on pick-ups after hiring them at high rates.
Mohammad Helal Uddin, in-charge of Mawa Traffic Police, said “We don’t allow any small vehicle on the Express Way and that’s why the people who are heading towards the capital are facing trouble as they are counting extra fare for reaching their respective destination.”
