Former general secretary of Bangladesh Hockey Federation, celebrated hockey player and veteran sports organiser Shamsul Bari passed away on Tuesday morning. He was 75.
Shamsul Bari, who had been suffering from diabetes and kidney diseases, breathed his last at 6 am at the Green Life Hospital in the capital after suffering from diabetes and kidney diseases.
Shamsul Bari left behind, wife, two sons, a daughter and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.
He was burried at Banani graveyard in the city after namaje e janaza at Maulana Bhashani National Stadium in the afternoon.
Shamsul Bari, who served Bangladesh Hockey Federation for about 17 years from 1988 to 2007, also served as the deputy secretary general of Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA).
He played hockey for then East Pakistan team from 1968 till the independence of Bangladesh and represented Bangladesh national hockey team from 1972 to 1978.
He also played for all the leading clubs like Dhaka Mohammedan, Dhaka Abahani and Mahat tully (Usha KC) in the hockey league.
Bari, who received sports awards from Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association and Bangladesh Sports Press Association as the organiser, also a Dhaka University Blue in hockey.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Hockey Federation, Bangladesh Olympic Association, Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association and Bangladesh Sports Press Association in separate messages, condoled the death of Shamsul Bari.
