A man was killed and at least five others were injured when supporters of two ward member aspirants clashed in Bagerhat’s Mollahat upazila on Thursday afternoon.
Police identified the victim and Asad Sheikh, 70. Three of the injured have been identified as Ripon Sharif, Mahbub Sharif and Enamul.
The clash took place at ward number 2 under Chunkhola union of the upazila.

Although police said it was a turf war, local sources said the clashes broke out over tearing of campaign posters.
Asad is the uncle of one of the member candidates, Mamun Sheikh.

Kibria Sharif, the other candidate, claimed that he was not home during the clash. He accused Mamun’s supporters of attacking his men.
Mamun, on the other hand, accused Kibria’s supporters of attacking first and demanded justice for his uncle.
