A Kushtia court on Monday sentenced three people to imprisonment until death, seven to life term imprisonment, and different jail terms to another six in a case filed over triple murder in Doulatpur upazila.
Kushtia Additional District and Session Judge Court-1 judge Md Tajul Islam passed the verdict in absence of five absconding accused in the case, said Anup Kumar Nandi, public Prosecutor of the court.
The court also acquitted two people from the charges in the case, he said.

Convicts who got imprisonment unto death are, Manik Joardar (absconding) from Katadaha village in Jhenaidah district, Hossain Rana, and Wasim Reza(absconding) from Salimpur village in the upazila.
The seven lifers are Idris alias Mota Jashim (absconding) from Mirpur upazila, Taimul Islam Bipul (absconding), Faruq, Ullash Khandakar, Manir(absconding), Bipul Chowdhury and A Mannan Molla.
The lifers will need to serve additional one year imprisonment if unable to pay the Tk 25,000 fine ordered by the court for each.
The court sentenced six more people imprisonment for different terms for their involvement in the murder.
On October 23, 2009, Jahangir Hossain, a resident of Sharsha upazila in Jashore, his brother and two others were kidnapped and kept hostage in Salimpur village by the accused.
They asked for a huge amount of ransom money from the families of each of the four but Jahangir’s brother managed to flee.
Later on November 25, the accused buried the three kidnaped men after strangulating them to death.
On December 2, the same year, a murder case was filed at Doulatpur police station following the complaint lodged by Jahangir’s brother accusing 16 people.
After a long investigation the investigation officer in the case submitted a charge sheet of the case to court on March 31, 2021.
Two other murder cases filed against the accused are still under trial.
