Officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge West Police Station Syed Sahid Alam said there was a huge pressure of vehicles on the highway following mad rush of home-bound people.
As a result, there was a 30-km snarl-up on the highway stretching from the roundabout on the west side of the bridge to Hatikumrul in Sadar, Raiganj and Kamarkhand upazilas on Sunday morning, he said. “Vehicles were moving at snail’s pace,” he said.
OC of Hatikumrul Highway Police Station Akhtaruzzaman said the tailback was created on the highway on Saturday morning and the situation was yet to return to normalcy.
People who were heading home in the country’s northern region to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha with their near and dear ones were sufferings a lot on the highway, he said, adding that elderly people and children are the worst sufferers.
