Bangladesh's daily Covid-19 cases continued to pass the 1,000-mark for the last four days with the country reporting 1,014 new cases in the last 24 hours till Saturday morning.
Twelve more Covid-19-related deaths were reported during the period, putting the mortality rate at 1.53%, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The daily percentage of people testing positive for the virus surged past 5% a few days back after a month of downtrend. The infection rate stood at 6.26% on Saturday after a slight fall from 6.62% on Friday.
Those who are 40 or above can register for getting the jab at www.surokkha.gov.bd as the on-spot registration system has been revoked.
Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said the age limit for getting the vaccine would be revised once more doses are available in the country.
Global Covid-19 Situation
The total number of global Covid-19 cases topped 119 million on Saturday amid concern of new virus strains, increasing pressure on nations to speed up the vaccination process.
According to Johns Hopkins University, the current total global caseload and fatalities stand at 119,115,504 and 2,640,657.
The US has recorded 29,347,339 cases while about 532,592 people have died in the country since the pandemic began a year ago.
Brazil has the second-highest number of Covid-19 deaths and cases, behind the US. The country registered 11,363,380 cases while its death toll from the virus has mounted to 275,105 until early Saturday.
Meanwhile, India's total case count and deaths stood at 11,333,728 and 158,446 deaths.
India holds the third position in terms of cases in the world and 4th position in terms of deaths, Johns Hopkins data.
