Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday her government never takes into consideration who voted for Awami League or who did not while unleashing development in the country.
"In the democratic process, anyone has the right not to cast his/her vote for Awami League. But, the government has created equal scope for all. It never considers who voted for AL or who didn’t," she said.
Sheikh Hasina, also AL president, was addressing the party nomination seekers for the election to Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) and by-polls to five parliamentary seats at her official residence Ganobhaban after a joint meeting of the AL Parliamentary Board (ALPB) and AL Local Government Nomination Board.
The Prime Minister urged her party leaders and activists to work for people imbued with the ideology of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and staying above all personal aspirations and gains.
She said their party is in power for more than one decade and as a result, the country’s development is now visible. "This is a great achievement for a government as people of the country keep its trust and faith in it for such a long time," she said.
She asked the party leaders and activists to ensure that the confidence and trust remain intact. "There’s nothing bigger for a political leader than to attain people's trust and confidence," she said.
Sheikh Hasina told the party leaders and activists to project the success stories of the government before people.
She said no government in the past did such development what the AL government did in the last 10 years.
She mentioned that the government ensured development across the country, including rural areas.
Sheikh Hasina said the government is developing the country in a planned way so that farmers, students and working people could get its benefit. "As a result, the country has already stepped into the arena of developing countries," she said.
She also put emphasis on keeping the development pace in the coming days.
Talking about militancy, terrorism and drugs, the Prime Minister said the on-going drive against these social menaces will continue.
She said if AL leaders and activists can portrait the government’s success before people, it will not be a problem to get votes from them in any election.
Sheikh Hasina urged people to cast their votes in favour of AL candidates in the coming election to Chittagong City Corporation and by-elections to some parliamentary seats, saying casting votes only for ‘Boat’ symbol will ensure people’s development.
She urged all to extend their cooperation to establish a hunger-and-poverty-free peaceful and developed Bangladesh as dreamed by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
