He said the government of Bangladesh will continue to promote safe, regular and orderly migration.
Bangladesh Parliamentarians Caucus on Migration along with the Civil Society members and NGO Committee on Migration held a consultative meeting in Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the UN in New York on Monday and discussed the issues.
The Caucus also participated in the 12th Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) held in Quito, Ecuador, said a media release on Tuesday.
Mentioning that migration is an important development issue for Bangladesh, Israfil Alam said remittance plays an important role in its economy and social development.
The Chair of the Caucus mentioned that GFMD is an effective forum to have dialogues among different actors in the field of migration. He emphasized on its being more inclusive so that it can play a more proactive role in promoting safe, regular and orderly migration.
PR of Bangladesh to the UN in New York Rabab Fatima welcomed the Parliamentarian Caucus, representatives of the Civil Society Organizations and the members of the NGO Committee and mentioned that the creation of the Caucus is the reflection of the importance Bangladesh attaches to the issue of migration.
Mentioning the continued relevance of the GFMD in addressing the challenges of migration, the PR observed that it provides a platform for bridge making between the policy makers and the CSOs.
She also stated that GFMD can take forward the implementation of the Global Compact on Migration which is a milestone document to protect the rights of migrants.

Members of the NGO Committee on Migration Ms. Eva Richter and Maria Pia Mignatti were also present during the meeting.
