Police arrested an 'Indian national' along with two gold bars in City Gate area on Thursday.
The arrestee was identified as Ranjit Acharya, 52.
Acting on a tip off, a team of police arrested Ranjit while crossing the police checkpost near the City Gate area in the afternoon, said Mustafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Akbar Shah police station.
Police also recovered two gold bars worth Tk 9.5 lakh, a Indian passport, Rs 2,000 and Tk 3,000 from his possession.
Police said Ranjit had long been involved in smuggling gold from Bangladesh.
