University of Dhaka East Asia Study Center and Embassy of Japan jointly organized the event.
Guest lecturer from Japan, Professor Atsuko Kanehara of Sophia University (also a Councilor of Advisory Council for the National Headquarters for Ocean Policy of Japan) introduced Japan’s recent development on ocean policies with focus on Free and Open Indo-Pacific Strategy (FOIP).
More than one hundred people including officials, faculty members and students, attended the lecture, said
Free and Open Indo-Pacific Strategy is a concept aiming to enhance stability and social/ economic development in Indo-Pacific area with improvement of the connectivity between Asia and Africa region.
It consists of three core components; the freedom of navigation, as well as the rule of law, promoting regional connectivity through establishing facilities related to transportation such as ports, harbors and roads to enhance economic prosperity and addressing obstacles to social/ economic developments such as natural disasters and piracy.
