A 36-year-old youth was killed and three others were injured by their rivals centering the recently held UP election in Patia of Chattogram on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Sohel, the younger son of the late Azahar Mia of Budpara village. He was a manager at a gas pump at Shikalbaha of Karnafully upazila.
Police said Sohel's brother and Kashiais union parishad chairman Abul Kashem locked into an altercation with rival Sharif after Tarabi prayer over the just concluded union parishad election at Budpara Bazar around 10pm.
Later, Sohel along with his men went to Sharif to know why he had a quarrel with his chairman brother which triggered an altercation among them.
At one stage, Sharif and his followers stabbed Sohel and three others indiscriminately, leaving them injured.
Critically injured Sohel and his men were rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where doctors declared Sohel dead.

Wounded Sajjad, 20, Saddam, 30, and Joynal, 34, are undergoing treatment in the surgery ward of the hospital.
Rezaul Karim, officer-in-charge of Patia police station said, on information, the police force has been sent to the spot.
“Efforts are on to arrest the killers,” he added.
