The US government also urged the Myanmar authorities to hold accountable members of the security forces and others responsible for these acts.
US Secretary of State Michael R Pompeo met with Myanmar Minister for the Office of the State Counsellor Kyaw Tint Swe in New York on the margins of the UN General Assembly meetings on Thursday and made the call.
"While underscoring US support for the democratic transition in Burma and efforts to achieve national peace and reconciliation, the Secretary urged the Government of Burma to take concrete steps to investigate the human rights abuses," said US Department of State Spokesperson Heather Nauert on Friday.
The Secretary also called for the Myanmar government to immediately release jailed Reuters reporters Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo and to strengthen and protect freedom of expression and the press, according to US Department of State.
