Work on Bhatera General Hospital, a non-profit health facility in Bhatera union of Kulaura upazila in Moulvibazar district, officially began on Friday.
Former Secretary and Bangladeshi High Commissioner to the UK AH Mofazzal Karim laid the foundation stone of the hospital as the chief guest in the afternoon.
Managing Director of Mount Adora Hospital, Sylhet Prof Dr KM Akhtaruzzaman, Mayor of Kulaura municipality and Principal of Bhatera College Shipar Uddin and Bhatera union parishad Chairman Syed AKM Nazrul Islam, among others, spoke at the foundation-laying ceremony with former Secretary Mikail Shipper in the chair.
Bhatera General Hospital with all modern treatment facilities is being constructed on 35 decimals of land by Brahmanbazar-Fenchuganj road in Bhatera union. The land has been donated by Dr Sayef Ahmed, a Bangladeshi expatriate living in Canada.

Local people from home and abroad have extended their financial support to implement the project.
With the motto 'Dedicated service to humanity', the hospital will provide treatment for patients, and carry out laboratory tests and surgeries at a nominal cost. It will make no profit from the funds collected for patient services.
The residents of Bhatera union and adjoining ones in particular and that of the entire Kulaura and adjacent upazilas in general will be able to receive affordable treatment at the hospital to be run under a trust.
