Mohammad Naim and Afif Hossain came up with the first 100-run opening partnership of the Dhaka Premier Division Twenty20 Cricket League Thursday to help Abahani beat Shinepukur by 25 runs at BKSP.
Shinepukur won the toss and sent Abahani to bat first, who posted 183 for five in 20 overs, riding on the 111-run partnership of Naim and Afif. Naim scored 70 off 50 balls with four fours and as many sixes, Afif posted 54 off 42 balls with three fours and four sixes.
Tanvir Islam of Shinepukur bagged four wickets conceding 23 runs in four overs. They scored 123 for five in 17 overs before rain interrupted the game. Towhid Hridoy scored 36 off 32 balls while Tanzid Islam and Mahidul Islam Ankan remained unbeaten on 31.
The match could not be resumed due to weather and Abahani won the game through the DL method.
On the same day, Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity beat the Brothers Union by 5 runs in another rain-hit game at BKSP. Brothers won the toss and batted first to score 134 for five in 20 overs on the back of Mizanur Rahman's 66.
In reply, Khelaghar scored 109 for three in 16.2 overs before rain came in. The match could not be restarted and Khelaghar were announced the winner through the DL method.
In another game of the day, Salauddin Shakil bagged five wickets conceding 16 runs in 3.3 overs for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Partex Sporting Club were bundled out for 104 runs in 19.3 overs.
In reply, Sheikh Jamal scored 105 for four in 17.2 overs to win the game by six wickets with 16 balls to play.
