Tigers to leave for New Zealand on Friday
Bangladesh cricket team will leave for New Zealand on Friday.
Ahead of the T20 World Cup, which will be played in Australia next month, Bangladesh will participate in a tri-series T20 in New Zealand that also involves Pakistan.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has already announced the New Zealand tri-series and World Cup squad.
Recently, Bangladesh played a two-match T20I series against the UAE and Bangladesh won 2-0. In this series, Afif Hossain has done well for the Tigers. But right-handed batter Sabbir Rahman, who played as an opener, failed to impress.
Bangladesh made a change to their staff— team manager Nafis Iqbal has been removed, and senior media manager Rabeed Imam has been appointed as the new team manager.
Media reports said the players are not happy to see Nafis as the team manager.

The first match of the tri-series will take place on October 7 when Bangladesh will take on Pakistan. The Tigers will get at least four matches in this event.
Shakib Al Hasan, the Bangladesh captain, missed the UAE series for CPL. But he will join the Bangladesh team in New Zealand. In his absence, Nurul Hasan Sohan led Bangladesh in the UAE series.
Bangladesh squad for the New Zealand tri-series and the T20 World Cup: Shakib Al Hasan (captain), Sabbir Rahman, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Afif Hossain, Mosaddek Hossain, Liton Das, Yasir Ali, Nurul Hasan Sohan (vice-captain), Mustafizur Rahman, Mohammad Saifuddin, Taskin Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain, Hasan Mahmud, Nasum Ahmed, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, and Standby players: Shoriful Islam, Rishad Hossain, Mahedi Hasan, Soumya Sarkar.
Women and Men’s Cricket : Same day same game same win margin but …
Bangladesh women beat Ireland by 7 runs and Bangladesh men beat UAE by 7 runs in a rare coincidence, but it meant two very different reactions. The women’s team took the WC Qualifiers trophy three times in a row with yesterday’s victory, though Ireland fought hard.
Bangladesh men also played a practice match against a lowly rated UAE and had a close win, but it was embarrassing to watch. One team is going up while the other is in decline.

The Women
Bangladesh and Ireland Women, the two finalists, had already reached the World Cup stage, so the stake was low. However, it showed some interesting features.
The BD Women’s team is strong, but it still lacks the killer blow delivery capacity that a team needs to win on the global stage. Bangladesh did win the Asia Cup, beating India, but India has gone ahead and beat England last week. The West Indies men's team is not particularly strong, but their women's team—previous cup winners—is. So Bangladesh had better watch out about the possibility of bad days on the big stage.
Both India and Pakistan have also improved, and India’s 3-0 win against England last week is a reminder that while we did beat them, it’s not the same team anymore. And SA and others have better records than us.
One reason why the women’s team is not pushing up as much as it could be is a lack of sponsorship and investment. Globally, women’s cricket has yet to catch on, so ICC dole money is low for the qualifying countries. The media has only recently begun to get interested, and so promoting it as a money-making sport is important. This is already happening, but not enough. But betting sites are already active, which means more crowds and that will hopefully translate into funds for Women cricket.
Performance wise, Bangladesh women still remain inconsistent. Its batting is below par and the fall of 8 wickets in 5 overs, including 3 in the last, means much more improvement is needed. While others are hitting sixes, BDW rarely do. Its strength remains in bowling, but a difference of only 7 runs in the final means it could have gone the other way.
What was least impressive was the fielding. The girls didn't look fit and seemed sluggish in running and releasing the ball back. It was obvious Ireland took advantage of that to accumulate. But they won, and that is great.

And the Men ?
The least said about the men, the better. They were perfect clowns on the field and could neither bat nor bowl. Their fielding was spectacular as everyone, from commentators to spectators, ran out of words to describe them. If they have to sweat so much to beat an associate status team I think everyone should accept that it’s also at that level and not the test status.
So we will suffer more as we watch the men get bashed by everyone in the next WC. We will keep our fingers crossed and hope to get some relief from the women's team's WC performance in South Africa next February.

Bangladesh start preparing for World Cup challenge after disastrous Asia Cup
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) started a three-day preparation camp on Monday involving the national team players, and some selected players from the high-performance unit and Bangladesh Tigers programme. After the disastrous Asia Cup, this is the first preparation camp of the Bangladesh team.
A total of 33 players are part of this camp. They took part in a match-scenario practice session on Monday.
BCB will announce the squad for the T20 World Cup, which will begin in Australia in October, this week. It is understood that the ongoing camp is formed to test the players for the last time ahead of the World Cup squad announcement.

Bangladesh might bring a few changes to the World Cup squad overlooking some players who took part in the Asia Cup. As Mushfiuqr Rahim retired from the T20 format, a new face will surely find a place to replace him and that might be Nurul Hasan Sohan who missed the Asia Cup due to an injury.
Mahmudullah Riyad, who failed to impress in recent matches, may also get another chance in the squad for his experience. However, Khaled Mahmud, the team director and former captain, said he is not sure if Mahmudullah is in the Bangladesh squad for the World Cup.
“We didn't get what we expect from him,” Mahmud said on Monday. “Mahmudullah is our match-winner. We have to remember it. He has some innings that helped Bangladesh to bring up big wins. So he is under our consideration. But we have to wait until we make a final call.”
Shakib Al Hasan, the Bangladesh captain in T20Is, kept the expectation low ahead of the Asia Cup. But he might have not thought that Bangladesh would perform so badly and lose all the matches in the group stage.
After an early exit from the event, Shakib said Bangladesh need more head than heart in T20Is to do well in the coming days.

Bangladesh will play five matches in the Super 12s round of the World Cup. The Tigers will take the field in their first match on October 24 while their other matches are on October 27, 30, and on November 2 and 6.
The top two teams from each group of the Super 12s round will qualify for the Semifinals which will be played on November 9 and 10. The final of the World Cup will be played on November 13 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Sridharan Sriram to take big role in Bangladesh team
Former Indian cricketer and coach Sridharan Sriram arrived in Dhaka on Sunday. He will soon take up the role of the technical consultant of the Bangladesh T20 team this week.
After coming to Dhaka, Sridharan visited Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, and he also watched the practice match of the Bangladesh squad that would tour the UAE later this month to play the Asia Cup.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) appointed Sridharan aiming to bring some changes to the T20 team that recently lost a series against Zimbabwe.
The former Indian cricketer has the experience of coaching IPL teams— Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab. He will work with the Bangladesh team till the T20 World Cup which will take place later this year in Australia.
“We want him to infuse an aggressive cricketing mindset into the team,” Khaled Mahmud, the technical director of the Bangladesh team has said recently. “We won’t play any format of cricket other than T20Is until the World Cup. So this is the time to inspire the boys to play aggressive cricket.”

BCB is yet to finalize if the head coach Russell Doming stays in the same role in the Asia Cup. Nazmul Hasan, the BCB president, said last week that they are considering not sending Doming to the Asia Cup.
In that case, Sridharan may be the head coach of the Bangladesh team in the Asia Cup.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh team played an intra-squad match on Sunday where Shakib Al Hasan was the best batter scoring 36 off 24 balls while Mahedi Hasan scored 31 off 16 balls.
Taskin Ahmed, Nasum Ahmed, Shakib Al Hasan and Hasan Murad did well with the ball taking two wickets each.
Shakib led the Red Team in this match and Afif Hossain was the captain of the Green Team.
The Bangladesh team will fly to the UAE on August 23. On August 30, Bangladesh will play their first match against Afghanistan in Sharjah, and on September 1, Bangladesh will take on Sri Lanka in Dubai.
BCB plans to cut salary gap between male, female cricketers
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is planning to reduce the salary gap between male and female cricketers, said Jalal Yunus, chairman of the cricket operation of the board.
A male cricketer makes at least Tk2 lakh for taking part in a T20I match while a female cricketer earns Tk60,000 for playing at the highest level of cricket.
"We are thinking about increasing the salary of the female cricketers," Jalal told the media Thursday.

"We have a department that works for the betterment of women's cricket. We have been discussing the women cricketers' salary for a while now and the board president also told us to raise their payments."
As the first cricket-playing nation, New Zealand has introduced equal pay for male and female cricketers. Now the other cricketing nations are also stepping forward to do so.
BCB's four-day special spin bowling camp begins Sunday
The Cricket Operations Committee of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has arranged a special four-day training camp for the spinners, which begins Sunday.
The Tigers' spin bowling coach Rangana Herath will conduct the camp from May 29 to June 1 at the indoor and outdoor training facilities of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
Thirty-two spinners with first class or Dhaka club-cricket experience have earned a call-up to the training camp.

Mushfiqur to skip West Indies series to perform hajj
Wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim is set to skip the upcoming West Indies tour of Bangladesh national team.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said the cricketer is on leave to perform hajj.
The development put Bangladesh team management into further trouble as they will now have to rethink the batting order.
“Mushfiuqr had applied for a leave a month ago to perform hajj. We have accepted it,” Jalal Yunus, chairman of cricket operation of BCB, told the media.

Earlier, allrounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz was ruled out from the ongoing series against Sri Lanka due to a finger injury. Right-arm pacer Taskin Ahmed was also out of the team due to an injury. Both of them are uncertain for the West Indies tour.
Along with them, left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam and right-arm spinner Nayeem Hasan have also sustained blows during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Chattogram. While Shoriful is doubtful for West Indies Tests, Nayeem has already been ruled out from this series.

2022 BCB Central Contract: Players List
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the players' central contract for 2022 on Thursday, (March 10). The BCB reduced its central contract list to 21 players and only gave contracts to five players across all forms of the game. Five players were handed a BCB central contract for one format, while eleven players were chosen for only one format. This contract will expire at the end of 2022. Let's take a look at the full list of players for BCB Central Contract 2022 and the probable match fees and salary structure.
The BCB's Central Contract Players for 2022
Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das, Taskin Ahmed, and Shoriful Islam were all included in all formats among the centrally contracted players. Shakib Al Hasan's inclusion was unexpected, given that BCB just granted him a full break till April 30, 2022. He was earlier picked for the South Africa trip.
However, Shakib informed the media before leaving for the UAE that he was not in the right frame of mind to play international cricket and that he needed a break from the sport. BCB's board of directors and president were enraged by his unexpected decision and criticized the all-rounder for his lack of professionalism.

After discussing with Shakib Al Hasan, BCB decided to give him a two-month break to recover from his mental exhaustion. Shakib is expected to be available for the remainder of the series and tournaments in 2022 since he was included in all three forms of the game.
Mushfiqur Rahim's inclusion in all three formats was justified since he is a senior member of Bangladesh's current setup and plays in every series of the country's international matches. Litton Das has been at the top of his game in Test cricket since 2021, but he struggled in the other two formats last year.
Litton Das has found his stride in both the ODI and T20 forms, which is excellent news for the Bangladesh campaign. He was Bangladesh's highest scorer in both the ODI and T20I in the just-finished Afghanistan series. Bangladesh will be hopeful that the classical top-order batter would play a key part in the national team's remaining international matches in 2022.

Two of Bangladesh's best medium pacers, Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam were also selected for Test, ODI, and T20I contracts. These two pacers have been outstanding for Bangladesh in the last 15 months or so.
Among the other players, Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah Riyad were selected for two formats. ODI captain, Tamim Iqbal was selected for the ODI and Test formats, while the T20I captain, Mahmudullah Riyad was picked for the T20I and ODI forms. Bangladesh's Test captain, Mominul Haque was selected for only the longest format of the game. Mustafizur Rahman was chosen for the ODI and T20 formats.
Yasir Ali and Mahmudul Hasan Joy were the only newcomers chosen for the test format. In addition, five players were not included in the previous year's contract. Mohammad Saifuddin, Abu Jayed Rahi, Saif Hassan, Soumya Sarkar, and Shamim Hossain are the players in question.

Expected Match Fees for Bangladesh Players
The BCB kept the wage structures and match fees for each format under wraps. Last year's match fees were as follows: BDT 6,00000 for each Test, BDT 3,00000 for each ODI, and BDT 2,00000 for each T20I (Source:espncricinfo.com).
There is no longer a grading system, and a player's wages are determined by a variety of factors. However, the match fee structure, as well as the salary structure, were not released.
Bottom Line
The Bangladesh Cricket Board released their yearly contract list after reviewing the players' performances. A couple of new players were added, while five players from last year's contract list were left off. The BCB selected Litton Das, Taskin Ahmed, and Shoriful Islam for all three forms, making them the biggest gainers. They must now repay BCB's faith by making significant improvements in their performances. Those who did not receive a BCB Central Contract 2022 for all three forms should concentrate on improving their overall performance.

Akram Khan set to resign from his BCB post, reveals family
Former Bangladesh captain and the current chairman of the cricket operation department of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Akram Khan, is set to resign from his post at BCB, according to his family.
Akram was ignored in some important decisions taken by the board after the Bangladesh team’s T20 World Cup debacle in Oman and UAE recently.
Despite being the chair of cricket operation, Akram was overlooked when the board appointed Khaled Mahmud as the director of the national team. Akram did not take this move of the board positively, a family source confirmed to the media.
