Seven get life term for raping Bangladeshi woman in India
A special court in India has sentenced seven Bangladeshi nationals to life in jail for raping a woman from their country in the southern city of Bengaluru last year.
The fast-track court also handed down jail terms of five and 20 years, respectively, to two others after holding them guilty of the crime on Friday.
However, two more men chargesheeted by police in the gang-rape case were absolved of the serious charge and instead convicted of various offences under the Foreigners' Act and sentenced to nine months in prison.

"One accused has, however, been acquitted as he turned an approver in the case. Eleven of the 12 chargesheeted in the case as well as the rape survivor are illegal Bangladeshi immigrants," a lawyer told the local media.
In fact, Indian authorities swung into action after a video of the heinous crime went viral on social media last year. Subsequently, a massive manhunt by Benguluru Police led to the arrest of the 12 men.

Interrogation of the arrestees also helped investigators unearth a cross-border human trafficking racket in the city.
Four get life term in Barishal for killing youth
A Barishal court has sentenced four people to life term imprisonment for killing a youth in Rajapur upazila of Barishal district in 2019 .
It also fined the convicts Tk 5,000 each, in default, they have to serve additional three months in jail.
The court also acquitted five accused as their involvement in the killing was not found.
Barishal divisional speedy trial tribunal judge Mahamudur Rahman delivered the judgment in presence of the convicts on Wednesday.

The convicts are Jashim Khan, Helal Fakir, Faisal Fakir, and Belal Fakir.
According to the case statement, Mehedi Hasan Shuvo was stabbed to death on March 26, 2019 at Boryear village in Rajapur upazila of Jhalakati district following previous enmity.
Victim’ s father Mahabub logged a complaint with Rajapur police two days after the killing naming 15 people.
On July 20, 2020, inspector Md Mainuddin and Abul Kalam Azad of Rajapur police station submitted a charge sheet before the court against the nine accused.
Man gets life term for killing wife in Ctg
A Chattogram court on Wednesday sentenced a man to life term in jail for killing his wife in Chattogram city in 2015.
The lifer is Abdus Sattar, of Cummila district.
Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sheikh Ashfaqur Rahman handed down the judgement in the presence of the accused.
The court also fined the convict Tk 50,000, in default, to serve jail for another six months.
Abdus strangled his wife Shaheda Aktar to death and hanged the body from the ceiling fan trying to show it as suicide, said Chattogram Metropolitan Public Prosecutor (PP) Fakhruddin Chowdhury.

On August 4 in 2015, police recovered the hanging body of Shaheda from their home at Khulsi area of the city.
Later, police arrested Abdus in connection with the killing. And during primary interrogation, he confessed to his crime.
A case was filed at Khulsi police staion in this regard.
Police submitted chargesheet against him on October 28 the same year.
On August 4 in 2016, the court framed charges against the convict.
Man gets life term for killing wife in Khulna
A Khulna court has sentenced a man to rigorous life imprisonment for killing his wife.
At the same time, the court also fined the accused Md A Gafur Mali Tk 20,000 with additional six months rigorous imprisonment for non-payment .
Khulna Additional District and Sessions Judge Ashraf Uddin passed the order on Monday.

Md A Gafur Mali is a resident of Betagram in Khulna’s Dumuria upazila.
According to court sources, Monira Begum Mita, Gafur Mali’s wife came to know about his second marriage. And on the night of September 26, 2010 Gafur suffocated her to death in a planned manner.
Next day victim's father filed a murder case at Dumuria police station.

On January 5, 2011, Dumuria Police SI Shahjahan submitted a charge sheet to the court accusing Gafur.
7 get life term for murder in Chattogram
A Chattogram court on Wednesday sentenced seven people to life imprisonment for killing a youth and hacking another in Karnafuli upazila of Chattogram.
The lifers are- Md Azam, Faruq, Ali Azgar, Shawkat Hossain, Omar Uddin, Ashraful Alam Sumon and Md Parvez.
Judge AKM Mozammel Haque Chowdhury of the Chattogram Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal handed down the verdict, said Ayub Khan, public prosecutor (PP) of the tribunal.
The court also sentenced one of the convicts to additional 10 years in jail and fined Tk 10,000.
After the verdict was announced, five of the seven convicts present in the court were sent to jail and arrest warrants were issued against the other two.

According to the case, the convicts hacked Mamunur Rashid Mamun to death for protesting against drugs and eve-teasing in Shahmirpur area of Karnafuli upazila on September 26 in 2018. They also hacked Mamun’s friend Aziz, leaving him seriously injured.
A case was filed at Karnafuli police station in this regard.
On March 11, 2019, the police submitted chargesheet against the seven. The court framed charges against the accused on January 5 last year.
Madrasa teacher gets life term for molesting student in Khagrachhari
A Khagrachhari court on Wednesday sentenced a madrasa teacher to life term imprisonment in a case filed over molesting a 10-year-old boy in 2017.
The lifer is Hafez Md Noman Mia alias Roman, a teacher of Choto Merung Al Iqra Hifzul Quran Madrasa at Dighinala of the district.

Khagrachhari Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Md Abu Taher handed down the verdict.
The court also ordered the lifer to give Tk 30,00,000 to the victim’s family as compensation.
According to the case statement, Noman Mia molested the student of the madrasa and a case was filed at Dighinala Police Station in this regard on August 23 in 2017.
On May 22 in 2018, charges were framed against Noman.
Indian citizen gets life term in Chapainawabganj
A Chapaianawabganj court on Thursday sentenced an Indian national to life term imprisonment in a case filed under the Arms Act.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Robiul Islam passed the order.
The convict is Milan Singha,37, son of Ratan Singha of Sukdebpur village in Malda district in India’s West Bengal.

On January 31,2018, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) detained Milan Singha with 7 guns, 74 rounds of ammunition and 14 magazines from Kapitola area in Shibganj upazila in the district, said Anjuman Ara Begum, Additional Public Prosecutor of the court.
Rab Sub-Inspector Golam Sarwar lodged a case at the Shibganj police station in this regard.
On March 1, 2018, the Investigation officer in the case submitted a chargesheet to the court accusing Milan Singha.
Ctg madrasha principal gets life term for violating female teacher
A Chattogram tribunal on Tuesday sentenced the principal of a local Madrasha to life imprisonment in a case over violating a female teacher in 2016.
The convict is Maulana Nizam Uddin, principal of Ummul Kura Dakhil Madrasha in Satkania upazila. The court also fined him Tk 50,000. He was tried in absentia.
According to the prosecution, Nizam Uddin raped an assistant teacher of the madrasha on January 3, 2016.
On September 26, 2016, the woman lodged a complaint with Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal.

Sinha murder: Ex-OC Pradeep, Liakat sentenced to death; 6 get life term
A Cox’s Bazar court on Monday sentenced former OC Pradeep Kumar Das and police inspector Liakat Ali to death and six others to life term imprisonment in the Maj (retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan murder case.
The six lifers are constable Sagar Dev, sub-inspector Nandolal Rakkhit, constable Rubel Sharma, Nurul Amin, Md Nizamuddin and Ayaz Uddin.
District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Ismail pronounced the judgment in presence of all the 15 accused, said Public Prosecutor Faridul Alam.
The court, however, acquitted seven other accused.

The 15 accused were brought to the court from Cox's Bazar district jail at 2 pm.
Of the 15 accused, 12 had given confessional statements before court except Pradeep, Sagar Dev and Rubel.
Man gets jail unto death for Kushtia murder
A Kushtia court on Tuesday sentenced a man to imprisonment until death and two others to life term jail for killing a man in 2009.
The convict who was sentenced to jail unto death is Salam Mollah, son of late Munser Mollah of Kalikatala area of Kumarkhali upazila. while the lifers are Saiful Islam, son of Amir Hamza and Rezaul Joardar Kalu, son of Haruna Rashid Haru of the same area.

According to the prosecution, Shahidul Islam, 21, son of Munser Ali of Kalikatala area, went missing on May 23, 2009. Later, on May 26, Shahidul’s throat-slit body was found in a pond.
Victim's father Munser Ali filed a murder case accusing five people on the same day.
Following investigation, a report was submitted to the court on June 17, 2011 against the accused.
After examining all the records and witnesses, Kushtia Additional District and Sessions Judge Abdullah Al Mamun handed down the judgment.
