Tourist ship catches fire in Teknaf's Damdamia Ghat
A massive fire broke out on a tourist ship that was docked for repairs at the Damdamia Ghat in Teknaf Sunday morning.
Mukul Kumar Nath, station officer of Teknaf Fire Service and Civil Defense, said that due to the suspension of tourist ships on the Teknaf-Saint Martin route, two ships named 'Keari Sindbad' and 'KEARI Cruise and Dine' were anchored at Damdamia Ghat and undergoing repairs for a long time.
The fire broke out at the 'KEARI Cruise and Dine' ship, quickly spreading throughout the ship.
‘Drug peddler’ held with Yaba pills in Teknaf
Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) on Tuesday detained a suspected drug peddler and seized 84,000 yaba pills from Shahpori island and Keruntoli areas in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
However, the identity of the detainee was not disclosed by the Coast Guard officials.
Tipped-off, BCG Station at Teknaf conducted a special drive in Shahpori island area around 1:30am and detained the man along with 70,000 yaba pills, said a media release signed by Lt Commander Khandaker Munif Taqi, media officer of the BCG.
Besides, another BCG team found a man roaming in Kuruntoli area around 3am.
Coast Guard members signaled the man to stop as his movements seemed suspicious. Sensing the presence of the Coast Guard men, the man dropped a bag and fled, it added.
Later, 14,000 yaba pills were seized from the bag.
The detainee and the seized yaba pills were handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station for further legal action, said the release.
Rohingya shot dead in Cox’s Bazar
A Rohingya man was shot dead in a reported gunfight between two factions of Rohingya at Nayapara in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar district on Sunday night, police said on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Ibrahim, son of Abdur Razzak of the upazila. He was a supporter of ‘Jakir Bahini’ a Rohingya criminal gang.
Hasan Bari Nur, commanding officer of APBn-16, two Rohingya criminal gangs exchanged gunfire in the Rohingya camp on Sunday night.
On information, a team of APBn rushed to the spot and found Ibrahim injured with bullets.

Later, he was taken to the local hospital where doctors referred him to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital.
Ibrahim died on way to Cox’s Bazar hospital.
Police are investigating the incident and trying to arrest the culprits, said police.

Man held with drugs in Teknaf
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has claimed to have detained a man and seized over 1kg of crystal methamphetamine and 50,000 Yaba pills in separate drives across Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
The detainee has been identified as Md Faruk, 30, son of Nur Ahmed of the upazila.
Tipped off, a BGB-2 team intercepted a boat coming from Myanmar in the Naf river at 6.30pm on Friday and detained Faruk as he tried to escape, the force said in a release.

While the BGB men seized 30,000 pieces of Yaba tablets worth Tk 90 lakh from his possession, a subsequent drive in the Hinla Abrang area led to the seizure of 1.06 kg of crystal methamphetamine worth Tk 5.90 crore and 20,000 pieces of Yaba tablets.
The drive was conducted after Faruk apprised the BGB men of the drugs during questioning, as per the release.
2 ‘drug peddlers’ held in Teknaf
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members detained two suspected drug peddlers along with 4,315 kgs of crystal meth and one lakh Yaba pills from Hinla area in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar district Wednesday night.
The detainees were Abdur Rahman, 30, son of Kader Box and Mohammad Nur, 25, son of Abdus Salam of the district.
Tipped off, a team of BGB-2 conducted a drive in the area and challenged two people coming from the bordering area, said commanding officer of BGB-2 Lieutenant Colonel Khalid Mohammad Iftekhar.

Later, the BGB men seized 4,315 kgs of crystal meth worth Tk 21.57 crore and one lakh Yaba pills worth Tk 3 crore from a bag and detained the duo.
Process is underway to hand the detainees to police, said BGB.
7 of drug & human trafficking gang held in Teknaf
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Friday claimed to have detained seven members of a drug and human trafficking gang from Teknaf.
The detainees have been identified as MD Shafi Ullah, 55, his wife Tyeba Begum, 40, their son Md Anwar Hossain,19, his wife Lucky Aktar, 19, Md Parvej, 16, Md Jalal, 26, and Md Redwan, 19, BGB-2 said in a release.

The seven were detained during two separate drives carried out by the Teknaf battalion of BGB-2, on a tip-off.
Some 40,000 yaba tablets worth Tk 1.27 crore, Kyat (Myanmar currency) worth Tk 10,784, 14 grams of gold jewellery worth Tk 88,000, and three mobile phones were seized from the possession of the detainees, the BGB said.
During questioning, the detainees admitted to peddling drugs and trafficking Rohingyas from Myanmar to different countries.

The seized jewellery and Kyat will be deposited with the treasury branch of Cox’s Bazaar district administration and cases will be filed against the detainees, said BGB.
BGB seizes drugs worth Tk 5.58 crore from Teknaf
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 1.05kg crystal meth, 10,000 pieces Yaba and 142 cans of Andaman Gold Beer, with a street value of Tk 5.58 crore, in a drive at Teknaf Upazila in Cox’s Bazar, said a media release on Monday.
A special patrol team of BGB-2 under Sabrang BOP, was patrolling on the banks of the Naf River near the perimeter of Jinnah Khal Salam Member on Sunday night.
The patrol team took a strategic position after hearing the footsteps of some people in the Keora garden around 4am and challenged 3 people.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the suspected smugglers abandoned three sacks and fled into the deep jungle.
Later, the patrol team recovered the drugs from the sack they left at the spot.
Legal steps are being taken in this regard, said the release.

140kg boal fish netted in Cox's Bazar
Fisherman caught a giant boal fish (helicopter catfish) weighing 140 kg from the Saint Martin's Island in Teknaf upazila on Saturday.
On Saturday morning, Abdur Rashid went to the island to catch fish and netted the huge boal fish from Dailpara point area, said Teknaf upazila Fisheries Officer Delwar Hossain.
Syed Alam, a local businessman and general secretary of the service trawler on the Teknaf-Saint Martin waterway, bought the fish for Tk 1.4 lakh.
Buyer Syed Alam said, "I bought the big boal of fish as a part of my hobby." However, the fish is planned to be sold in the local market at Tk 1,000 per kg.
Meanwhile, locals from different parts of the upazila thronged the island to have a look at the rare-size fish.
1 kg Crystal meth recovered from Teknaf
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Monday recovered one kg of crystal meth from Hlila at Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar.
BGB-2 Teknaf battalion confirmed it in a press release issued on Tuesday.

While patrolling at Obrang area of Hlila around 11pm, a patrol team of BGB-2 in Teknaf saw two men crossing the Naf River with a plastic bag towards Bangladesh.
When the BGB men challenged them, they jumped into the river and fled across the border into Myanmar, leaving the bag.
BGB estimated the drug worth Tk. 5 crore.
Man detained with Tk 5 crore worth Crystal Meth in Teknaf
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Saturday detained a drug trafficker with 1 kg crystal methamphetamine or Ice worth Tk 5 crore from Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar.
The arrestee was identified as Md Rafiq Mia, 37, a resident of Noapara Jele Ghat village in Teknaf, said BGB-2 Teknaf battalion in a press release issued on Sunday.
Following a tip-off about a large shipment of crystal meth being trafficked from Myanmar through the south of the Jaliardwip area, a patrol team of BGB Teknaf battalion took position on Saturday night.

Around 9:30 pm a hand-rowed boat crossed the zero line of the border from the Myanmar side and the BGB team immediately advanced towards them but most of the traffickers jumped off in the river and managed to flee, said BGB-2.
The patrol team gheraoed the boat and held Rafiq Mia with the crystal meth in a plastic bag, said the press release.
The procedure is on to hand over the detainee to Teknaf model police station, said BGB.
