BGB recovers Tk 6 crore worth Yaba from Teknaf
The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered two lakh pieces of Yaba worth Tk six crore during a drive at Teknaf, the force said on Friday.
The illegal drug was being smuggled to Bangladesh from Myanmar through Egarokani Alamgir Project area on Thursday, said BGB-2 in a press release.

A special patrol team of Whykong BOP spotted three men crossing Naf river with some plastic bags around 10:45 pm and started approaching them immediately.
But the smugglers managed to swim through the river and flee sensing the presence of BGB as the location was just 500 metres away from the Myanmar border.

Later the patrol team recovered the Yaba pills from the two bags they left from the spot, said BGB-2.
20 Rohingyas who fled Bhasanchar arrested in Chattogram
Twenty Rohingyas who had fled Bhasanchar in Noakhali were arrested in Jorarganj area of Mirsarai upazila in Chattogram on Saturday .
Among the arrestees, 11 were children, five women and four men.
The arrestees are Md Abdur Rahman, 27, Setara Begum, 20, Md Sabbir 26, Sanchita begum, Rajiya Begum, 23, Nurul Karim, 20, Salma Khatun, 50, Jamal Hossain, 24, Nur Kayda, 25, Rumana, 6, Nur Fatema, 3, Md Ayaz,8, Jannat Ara, 4, Kismat Ara Begum, 2, Mariam, 8, Abul Kashem,7, Md Ayat, 4, Setara, 5, Jannat Ara,1, and Osman Gani aged eight months.

Officer-in-Charge of Jorarganj police station Helal Uddin said tipped off, police arrested the Rohingyas and produced them before a court after filing a case.
Investigation is going on to find out who had helped them to flee, said the OC.
Meanwhile, locals said they informed police when a boat carrying a group of Rohingyas reached the coast adjacent to Mirsarai Economic Zone area.

The Rohingyas were travelling towards Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Teknaf, they said.
2 Rohingyas killed in landslide at Rohingya camps
Two Rohingyas were killed on Saturday in landslides following heavy rainfall in Ukhiya and Teknaf in Cox's Bazar.
The deceased have been identified as Rahim Ullah, 35, and Nur Hasina, 20.
The fatal incidents took place at Mainarghona camp in Ukhiya’s Balukhali union and at Chakmarkul camp in Teknaf’s Hoaikong union.

The captain of the 14th Armed Police Battalion (APBn) and Superintendent of Police MD Shihab Kayser confirmed the news to UNB.
“Rahim Ullah died in the landslide at around 10:30 am in the morning while he was cutting soil. Upon receiving the news a team of APBn recovered the dead body and handed it over to the concerned authorities,” Kayser said.

“The house of Nur Hasina was demolished due to a landslide at around 2pm. APBn rescued Hasina and rushed her to a local medical facility where the on-duty doctor declared her dead,” said 16th APBn Additional Superintendent of Police Tariqul Islam.
The dead bodies were handed over to police, who sent them to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, reported our local correspondent citing APBn sources.
Lockdown extended in Rohingya camps, Teknaf upazila
The local administration on Tuesday extended the ongoing lockdown in Teknaf upazila and five Rohingya camps in Ukhiya and Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar district in an effort to break the chain of Covid-19 transmission.
The existing lockdown will remain in force till June 6, officials here said.

All the activities inside the Rohingya camps, apart from food and medicine supply, will remain suspended during the lockdown.
Bangladesh is now hosting over 1.1 million Rohingyas both in Cox’s Bazar district and Bhasan Char.

Authorities on May 21 enforced a week-long lockdown at five Rohingya refugee camps in Teknaf and Ukhiya upazilas in Cox’s Bazar following a recent spike in Covid-19 infections in the district.
At the same time, the government also announced a 10-day lockdown in Teknaf upazila to curb the spread of the deadly virus.
