Mother-daughter duo killed in Dinajpur road accident
A woman and her 12-year-old daughter riding pillion on her husband's bike were killed after being hit by a speeding truck near M Abdur Rahim Medical College in Dinajpur in the early hours of Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Beauty Begum, 35, and her daughter Fahima, all residents of Pashtikari village in Bholahat upazila of Chapainawabganj.

The accident occurred when the speeding truck crashed into the bike around 5am while they were on their way home for Eid, leaving the duo dead on the spot, said Asaduzzama, inspector (investigation) of Kotwali Police Station.
Beauty’s husband Mohammad Hossain and their minor son also sustained severe injuries in the accident. "They are being treated at M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital," he said.
"Efforts are on to nab the truck driver who sped away after the accident," the inspector said.
5 killed in Rangpur road crash
Five people were killed and two others injured when a truck rammed an auto-rickshaw on Mahiganj-Pirgachcha road at Sareyartal in the city on Tuesday, said police.
Four of the deceased were identified as Raza Mia, 46, driver of the auto-rickshaw, Jannat Mawa, 4, Gita Rani, 7 and Shahjahan Mia, 55 of Pirganj upazila.
The accident occurred around 1:30 pm when the truck hit the auto-rickshaw, leaving two people dead on the spot and five others injured, said Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Tazahaat Police Station.
The injured were taken to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital where three of them succumbed to their injuries.

Police seized the truck and arrested its driver, said the OC.
Road accident in Bangladesh
Road accidents in Bangladesh continue to claim hundreds of lives every year.
At least 1890 people, including 242 women and 312 children, were killed and 3,543 others injured in 1,792 road accidents in the first five months of the current year.
The National Committee to Protect Shipping, Roads and Railways (NCPSRR), a non-government organisation, on Sunday revealed the information in its regular monthly survey and observation report.

Meanwhile, as many as 524 people, including 73 children, were killed and 821 others injured in 467 road accidents across the country in June.

Of these, 204 people died in motorbike accidents alone during this period, which is 38.93% of the total fatalities, Road Safety Foundation said its latest report released on Monday.
Besides, 107 pedestrians, 86 drivers and their assistants were killed in the accidents .

On the other hand, waterways accidents claimed at least nine lives with 16 injuries. Besides,16 were killed and four injured in train accidents across Bangladesh last month.
Road Safety Foundation prepared the report based on the reports of nine national dailies, seven online news portals and electronic media.
Of the total accident, 159 accidents occurred on the national highways, 174 on regional roads, 72 on rural roads, 56 on city roads and six in other places, said the report.
According to the report, 25.05% accidents occurred in Dhaka division, 15.41% in Rajshahi, 16.48% in Chattogram, 14.34% in Khulna, 9% in Barishal, 2.78% in Sylhet, 10.49% in Rangpur and 6.42% in Mymensingh divisions.

The highest number of accidents recorded in Dhaka division as 139 people died in 117 accidents while 14 people died in 13 accidents in Sylhet division, which is the lowest compared to other divisions, said the report.
The RSF pointed out several major reasons behind the increasing trend of road accidents.
The reasons include - faulty vehicles; reckless driving; desperate mentality, incompetence and illness of drivers; unsettled wages and working hours; prevalence of low-speed traffic on highways; reckless motorcycling by the youth; the tendency of flouting traffic rules, poor management of traffic; lack of efficiency of the BRTA; and extortion in the sector.
The RSF urged the authorities concerned to address the issues and take necessary initiative to fix those.
7 killed in road accidents in 3 districts
Seven people died in separate road accidents in Faridpur, Sylhet and Chuadanga districts on Sunday.
In Faridpur, three people including a 30-year old woman and her 7-year old daughter were killed in separate road accidents.
Two of the deceased were identified as Suparna Biswas, wife of Prabir Biswas of Tungrail village in Boalmari upazila and their daughter Protyasha Biswas.

Suparna and her daughter were returning home on a paddled van with her daughter from Shasrail market around 2:30 pm when a recklessly speeding truck hit the van from behind near Kalimajhi brick kiln on Maijkandi-Bhatiapara regional highway, said Kalpana Mandal one of the witnesses.
The truck driver managed to flee along with the truck, leaving the duo dead on spot, said Md Abdul Wahab, Officer-in-Charge of Boalmari police station.
Meanwhile, Sajib Sheikh, 17, a construction worker was killed and two others were injured as he lost control over his motorcycle near Shyampur filling station in Sadarpur upazila headquarter.
In Sylhet, three people were killed as a motorcycle collided with a truck in Jaintapur upazila in Sylhet.
The deceased were identified as Jashim Uddin, 16, son of Abdul Ahad, and Azim Uddin,19, son of Shiraz Uddin, Fahim Ahmed Ami, 16, son of Subedur Rahman from Sylhet sadar upazila , said Golam Dastagir Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge of Jaintapur police station.
The accident occurred around 3 pm near Sylhet gas field on Sylhet-Tamabil highway leaving one of the motorcycle riders dead on spot.
Another motorcyclist died on the way to hospital while another severly injured rider died under treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital, said the OC.

“Both the vehicles were seized but none has been arrested in this regard yet,” he said.
In Chuadanga, a seventh grader was killed hit by a tractor at Ramnagar intersection of Damurhuda upazila in Chuadanga
The deceased was identified as Al Amin alias Likhan, 14, son of Khandakar Mohammad Ashraful and a student of Memnagar high school, said AHM Lutful Kabir, Officer-in-Charge of Darshana police station.
Police said a mud-laden tractor hit the Likhan from the opposite direction on his way home from a coaching centre in the area around 10:00am leaving him spot dead.
Woman killed in Chapainababganj road accident
A woman was killed in a head-on collision between a van rickshaw and a power tiller tractor in
Shibganj upzila of Chapainababganj on Saturday morning, police said.
The deceased was identified as Lalbanu, 52, wife of Nabab Ali of the Jahurpur area of the upazila's Mobarrakpur union.

Chowdhury Jobayer Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Shibganj police station, said the accident in the Kansat Bashpatti area of the upazila around 8am left the woman on the rickshaw critically injured.
"Locals rushed the woman to Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared her dead on arrival," he said.
Road accidents kill 4, injure 7 in five districts
At least four people including two students were killed and seven others were injured in separate road accidents in Thakurgaon, Narail, Magura, Chattogram and Khulna districts on Saturday.
In Thakurgaon, a 13-year old schoolgirl was killed and two others were hurt in a motorcycle accident at Goalkari on Baliadangi-Lahiri road in Baliadangi upazila.
The deceased was identified as Munni Akter, a sixth grader of Baliadangi Government Girl’s High School and dauther of Sadekul Islam, said Khayrul Anam, Officer-in-Charge of Baliadangi police station.
The accident occurred in the morning when the Baliadangi-bound motorcycle hit Munni from behind when she was passing the area, leaving her dead and the two riders injured. The injured were admitted to Thakurgaon Modern Sadar Hospital.

In, Narail , a sand-laden trolley truck ran over a 17-year old student on his way to madrasah on Khararia-Nawapara road in Kalia upazila, said Sheikh Tasmim Alam, OC of Kalia police station.
The deceased was identified as Asif Mina, a student of class eight of Khararia Rahima Habib Dakhil Madrasah and son of Hiru Mina.
OC Tasmim Alam said the vehicle has been seized and legal action will be taken in this regard.
Meanwhile, in Magura an unidentified youth was killed being hit by a trolley truck in front of Jashpur schoolin Mohammadpur upazila, said Ikram Hossain, OC of Mohammadpur police station.
A case was filed in this regard and the body was sent for an autopsy, he said.

In Chattogram, a motorcyclist died being hit by a truck on Mariner’s Road in Fishery Ghat area in the city at noon.
The deceased was identified as Tripti Dhar,34, son Chandra Sutradhar from Cumilla.
Truck driver named Alamgir was arrested and the vehicle has been seized, said Zahidul Kabir, OC of Kotwali police station.
Besides, five people were injured at East Jhiler Danga in Dumuria upazila of Khulna as two trucks collided head on at 11:30 am, said Md Shihab Molla, Sub-Inspector of Dumuria police station.
All the injured were truck drivers and their assistants, he said. They were taken to Khulna Medical College and Hospital by locals.
Of them driver Babu’s condition is critical, said the SI.
Road crashes leave seven dead in Naogaon & Sylhet
Seven people were killed and three others injured in separate road accidents in Naogaon and Sylhet on Friday morning, police said.
In Naogaon, the accident occurred on the Naogaon-Rajshahi highway in Sadar upazila around 8am when a truck collided with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw.
Five people, all occupants of the auto-rickshaw, died in the impact of the collision in the Bablatali area of the highway, said Nazrul Islam Jewel, officer-in-charge of Naogaon Sadar Model Police Station.

Cops couldn’t identify the deceased immediately.
Meanwhile, in Sylhet, a woman and her son were killed when a truck hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Companiganj at 6am.
The deceased were identified as Hanufa Begum and her son, Emraj Mia, of the upazila, said police.
The speeding truck crashed into the auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction in Telikhan of the upazila, leaving the mother-son duo dead on the spot and three others injured, Sukanta Chakraborty, officer-in-charge of Companiganj police station, said.
The injured have been admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital (SOMCH), he added.

The bodies will be handed over to the family members after completing legal formalities, said the OC. "We have seized the truck. But its driver and helper managed to escape."
2 killed, 10 hurt in Rajshahi road crash
Two people were killed and 10 others injured when a truck hit a van on the busy Dhaka-Rajshahi highway in Rajshahi, police said.
The deceased were identified as Sumnuzzaman, 38, son of Mansur Ali of Nayapara village, and Rasedul Islam, 30, of Charghat upazila.
The accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when the Rajshahi-bound truck hit the van carrying some 12 people, leaving Sumnuzzaman dead on the spot and 11 others injured.

The injured were first taken to Puthia Upazila Health Complex from where they were referred to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital.
Rasedul died on the way to the hospital, said Mofakkarul Islam, in-charge of Poba Highway police outpost.
2 killed, 2 injured in Ctg road crash
Two people were killed and another two injured as a stone-laden truck hit a three-wheeler near Kerhat Forest Office area of Mirsarai in Chattogram on Tuesday.
The deceased were three-wheeler passenger Md Rubel, 30, resident of Gheramara village of Karerhat union and three-wheeler driver Md. Yusuf, 26, of the same union.
The accident occurred at around 1.30 pm in Gheramara area of the union.

Sub-inspector (SI) of Jorarganj Police Station Sufal Chandra said that two people died on the spot when a mini-truck loaded with stones hit a three-wheeler.
Two people injured in the accident were sent to the hospital. One of them is in a critical condition, he said.
Police seized the truck and the three-wheeler but the truck driver managed to flee, he added.
Engineer killed in Dinajpur road crash
A-30-year-old engineer was killed and 15 others were injured in a road accident in Ghoraghat upazila of Dinajpur on Friday.
The deceased Mozaharul Islam was from Tengrapara Vinail union.
He worked as a sub-assistant engineer of Gaibandha’s Palashbari upazila. However, the identities of the injured are yet to be known.
The accident occurred when a pickup van hit Mozaharul when he was returning home on his motorbike and overturned the pickup after it lost control, leaving him dead on the spot and 15 others, including the driver injured, said Ziaur Rahman Zia, sub-inspector of Ghoraghat police station.
The injured were admitted to a local hospital, he said, adding that the condition of 6 injured is critical.
