West Indies beat Bangladesh to sweep T20 series
West Indies beat Bangladesh by five wickets in the third and final T20I of the three-match series on Thursday night.
With this win, the hosts won the series 2-0 after the first match was washed out due to heavy rains.
Bangladesh batted first in this match after a delayed start posed by rains. The visitors scored a par score of 163 for five wickets, with Afif Hossain hitting a blazing fifty off 38 balls with two fours and two sixes. And Liton Das posted 49.
But the other batters failed to score at the pace that T20 cricket requires.

Anamul Haque (10), Shakib Al Hasan (5) and Mahmudullah Riyad (22) failed to do what the team needed to post a bigger total on the board against the West Indies.
Hayden Walsh bagged two wickets for the hosts.
In reply, Nicholas Pooran, the West Indian captain, scored 74 off just 39 balls with five fours and five sixes and made it easy for the hosts to win the match chasing a target of 164 runs. Kyle Mayers also hit a fifty.
Bangladesh used eight bowlers in this match but failed to defend a good total.
Nasum Ahmed, the left-arm spinner, bagged two wickets conceding 44 runs in four overs, while Mahedi Hasan, Shakib Al Hasan and Afif Hossain scalped one wicket each.
Now both the team will take on a three-match ODI series, starting July 10. The other matches will be played on July 13 and 16.
Before the limited-over series, Bangladesh and West Indies played a two-match Test series that the Tigers lost 2-0.
West Indies lead in T20I series with easy win
After the first match of the three-match T20I series is washed away, West Indies registered an easy win in the second match against Bangladesh in Dominica.
Rovman Powell hit two fours and six sixes in a 28-ball 61 not out as West Indies’ 193 for 5 proved too much for Bangladesh to chase down on Sunday. The hosts batted first after winning the toss.
Bangladesh scored 158 for 6 in reply as West Indies won by a comfortable 35 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Opener Brandon King scored 57 runs in 43 deliveries and captain Nicholas Pooran hit a 30-ball 34 after West Indies chose to bat first.
Left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam took 2 for 40 in four overs. The other left-arm premium pacer of Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman, failed to take any wicket despite conceding 37 runs in four overs. Taskin Ahmed, the right-arm pacer, also had a bad day at office— he conceded 46 in three overs but failed to take any wicket.
Bangladesh recovered from 23 for 3 as Shakib Al Hasan top-scored for the visitors with an undefeated 68 off 52 deliveries, including five fours and three sixes. It was the highest score of the match.
Afif Hossain, the left-handed batter, scored 34 of 27 deliveries with three fours and one six. Mosaddek Hossain was the other Bangladeshi batter to have scored a double-digit total. He made 15.
Pacer Romario Shepherd finished with 2-28 in four overs.
The first T20I on Saturday was a washout. Bangladesh reached 105 for 8 in 13 overs with the match already having been reduced to 14 overs per side. That game was the first cricket international at Windsor Park since it was rebuilt after being severely damaged in 2017 by a hurricane.
The third and last T20I is scheduled for Thursday in Providence, Guyana, followed by a three-match ODI series.

West Indies swept the two-match Test series against Bangladesh where the Bangladeshi batters failed to impress. However, bowlers, especially Khaled Ahmed did well. The pacer bagged 10 wickets in two Tests with a five-wicket haul.
WI vs BAN: Rain-hit T20I series opener washes away
The maiden T20I of the three-match series between the hosts West Indies and Bangladesh has been washed away due to rain on Saturday night at Windsor Park, Roseau, Dominica.
The toss was delayed by more than an hour due to the rain. The hosts won the toss and sent Bangladesh to bat first under the overcast condition. Due to the rain, the match was reduced to a 16-over game.

Bangladesh got a new opening pair in this match in Anamul Haque and Munim Shahriar. But they failed to impress. Munim fell victim to Akeal Hosein off the third ball of the innings scoring only two runs.
Bangladeshi batters took too many risks aiming to score faster and pose a challenging total to the hosts. But the strategy didn't work well as the tourists lost quick wickets regularly.
They were down to 77 for seven from 36 for one. Apart from Anamul (16), Shakib Al Hasan (29) and Nurul Hasan Sohan (25), none was able to reach a double-digit total against the quality bowling attack of the hosts.
All off Liton Das (9 off 14), captain Mahmudullah Riyad (8 off 13) and Afif Hossain (0 off 2) have failed to settle in the wicket.
The rain turned heavier after Bangladesh scored 105 for eight in 13 overs, and the umpires called the match off.

However, according to the latest update from the Bangladesh Cricket board, all the players are doing well after reaching Dominica.
Before this series, Bangladesh and the West Indies took on each other in 13 matches, with Bangladesh winning five of them. The Tigers played three T20Is in the West Indies but failed to win any of those matches.
The West Indies are at number seven in the ICC T20 Team Rankings and Bangladesh at number eight.
After the three-match T20I series, both teams will lock horns in a three-match ODI series which will be played on July 10, 13, and 16.

Shakib uncertain for West Indies ODIs
Bangladesh Test captain Shakib Al Hasan is uncertain for the three-match ODI series against the West Indies, BCB president Nazmul Hasan has hinted.
Shakib is part of the ODI squad that the cricket board announced for the upcoming series. But there has always been speculation about his participation in this series.

“I knew it before he went to the West Indies,” Nazmul said. “He didn't discuss it with me, but discussed with others.
Nazmul also said that Shakib spoke to Jalal Yunus, the chairman of cricket operations, about taking a leave during the ODI series.
“Shakib didn't talk about it to the board,” Nazmul added. “I will speak to him soon and will get to know what he actually wants. As of now, he hasn't talked to the board officially, but you can still take it as official.”
The three-match ODI series against the West Indies is not a part of the ICC World Cup Super League, which may have prompted the allrounder to skip this series.

Bangladesh on the verge of another defeat vs WI
After yet another poor batting display, Bangladesh are on verge of another Test defeat in the West Indies.
At the end of the rain-hit third day of the second Test of the two-match series in St Lucia, Bangladesh were struggling at 132 for six. The visitors still need 42 runs to avoid an innings defeat.

Khaled Ahmed bagged his maiden five-for in the first innings of the West Indies who posted 408 and secured a big lead of 176 runs. Khaled ended up taking five for 106— his best in Tests so far.
And along the way, Khaled became the first Bangladeshi pacer to register a five-wicket haul in a Test in the West Indies. He surpassed Mushfiqur Rahman, who had taken 4 for 65 at the same venue in 2004, in the record of best bowling by a Bangladeshi pacer in the West Indies in a Test innings.
Bangladesh lost three wickets just for 32 runs in 10 overs. Tamim Iqbal, the main opener of Bangladesh, fell victim to Kemar Roach. With Tamim’s dismissal, Roach completed 250 wickets in Test.
He later removed Mahmudul Hasan Joy and comeback-man Anamul Haque Bijoy and moved to 252.
All of Najmul Hossain Shanto (42), Liton Das (19) and Shakib Al Hasan (16) have managed a good start each but failed to continue on that— the familiar batting foe of Bangladesh.
To win this Test, West Indies will have to take only four more wickets before Bangladesh scores another 42 runs.

On the other hand, the task of avoiding a big defeat in this Test is more than tough for Bangladesh who also lost the first Test in Antigua by seven wickets.
In the first innings of this Test, Bangladesh scored only 234 runs with a fifty from Liton. That poor display eventually put Bangladesh in a position that they were unable to recover from.
After the Test series, both the teams will take on each other in a three-match ODI and three-match T20I series.
Mayers' 146 powers West Indies to big lead
The West Indies started their first innings of the Lucia Test 234 runs behind Bangladesh and finished it 174 runs ahead at the Daren Sammy Stadium Sunday.
Kyle Mayers' epic knock of 146 came to an end as he fell to Khaled Ahmed on day three. It was Khaled's fourth wicket in the innings.
Bangladesh picked up two wickets in the first session of the day before the rain came in.

In the rain-hit first session, the West Indies added 36 runs with their overnight total of 340 for five and lost two more wickets.
The hosts had lost four wickets for 132 runs. But Mayers, Jermaine Blackwood and Joshua Da Silva stood firm to strike back and secure a first-innings lead for the hosts.
Earlier, Bangladesh scored 234 in the first innings with only a 50 from Liton Das. All of Bangladesh's first five batters managed to have good starts, but they failed to carry on.
At the end of day two, Bangladesh's head coach Russell Domingo had said the batters should learn from the West Indies.
The hosts won the first Test of the ongoing series, which is a part of the ICC World Test Championship.
WI off to solid start against Bangladesh
Bangladesh displayed yet another poor batting performance in the first innings of the St Lucia Test against the West Indies on Friday.
The hosts bowled first after winning the toss and wrapped up the visitors for 234. In reply, they scored 67 without any loss at the end of day one of the second match of the two-Test series.
All the Bangladesh’s top five batters got off to decent starts and played at least 30 balls, but only one of them could pass the 50-run mark.
Bangladesh made two changes to the playing XI -- including Anamul Haque Bijoy and Shoriful Islam who replaced Mominul Haque and Mustafizur Rahman, respectively.
For the first wicket, Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudul Hasan Joy made 41 runs. Joy was the first man to fall, scoring 10 off 31 balls. The other opener, Tamim, hit 46 off 67 balls with nine fours. He had a great chance to bat for a long time on a surface that looked good to bat on day one.
Najmul Hossain Shanto got another chance to prove his mettle in the longer format of cricket despite repeated poor displays. This time, he played 73 balls to score 26 runs. Despite this good start, he failed once again to post a big total.
Anamul batted at four and scored 23 off 33 balls with five fours. He managed a good start but failed to continue on a good run on his Test return after eight years. He played his last Test before this match in 2014 at the same venue.

Liton Das was the only batter to hit a fifty in Bangladesh’s first innings. He made 53 off 70 balls. But, Shakib Al Hasan, Nurul Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz failed to do well with the bat — all the “Hasans” returned with a one-digit score each.
Tailenders, Ebadot Hossain and Shoriful Islam, surprised all by scoring 21 and 26, respectively. They helped the Tigers pass the 200-run mark.
Jayden Seales and Alzarri Joseph bagged three wickets each for the hosts, while Anderson Phillip and Kyle Mayers scalped two wickets each.
In reply to Bangladesh’s low total of 234, the West Indies made 67 for none in 16 overs to end day one. Captain Kraigg Brathwaite scored 30 while John Campbell made 32, and both of them remained unbeaten.
“We have to be patient in the morning session tomorrow (on June 25),” Tamim told reporters at the end of day one. “You cannot do whatever you want on this sort of wicket. So we have to be patient with the ball."
Bangladesh lost the first Test in Antigua by seven wickets, with the batters failing to pose any challenge before the hosts’ bowling line-up.
Bangladesh aim to bounce back in 2nd Test
After losing the first Test by seven wickets, Bangladesh aims to bounce back strongly in the second Test against the West Indies at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia on Friday.
Batters failed to impress Antigua when they suffered six ducks in the first innings of the match, and they also couldn't come back in the second innings.

Shakib Al Hasan, the newly-appointed captain of the Bangladesh Test team, hit a fifty in each innings, but the other batters failed to accompany him.
After the first match, Shakib said that the batters should come up to end their continued Test debacle.
Kemar Roach, the premium pacer of the hosts, has taken five wickets in the second innings of Bangladesh in the first match. The Tigers need to do well against him in order to bring a positive result.
The Tigers might bring some changes in the second match. Mominul Haque, the left-handed batter, has been failing to do well for a long time. In his last 10 innings, he suffered four ducks and failed to reach even a single two-digit total.
The former captain of Bangladesh might lose his place in the second match. If the team management gives him another chance to go, Najmul Hossain Shanto might have to pave the way for Anamul Haque Bijoy who has been added to the squad for the second Test. Shanto has also been going through a bad patch for a long time. Despite having some good starts to the innings, he has been failing to convert those innings to the big totals.
Along with Anamul, Shoriful Islam, the left-arm pacer, might get a chance in the second Test. The pacer was part of Bangladesh's limited-overs teams. But he is now added to the Test squad as well.
In the first match, Bangladesh fielded three pacers— Mustafiuzr Rahman, Khaled Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain. To pave a way for Shorfiul, the team management may rest Ebadot who bagged two wickets in the first match.
This series is a part of the ICC World Test Championship. Bangladesh has only one win in this event which came against New Zealand earlier this year.
After the two-match Test series, both teams will lock the horns in a three-match ODI and three-match T20I series.

Yasir Ali ruled out of West Indies series
Right-handed Bangladesh batter Yasir Ali has been ruled out of the ODI and T20I series against the West Indies due to an injury, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said Wednesday.
The batter failed to recover from a back injury sustained during the tour match ahead of the first Test in Antigua.

He was expected to be back in action in the ODI and T20 international series.
"Yasir Ali is not recovering as fast as anticipated from his back injury and could not start his rehabilitation process," Bayejidul Islam, the physiotherapist of the national team, said.
"He will miss the remaining matches and therefore be out of the West Indies series."
Yasir will return to Bangladesh and continue his recovery under the supervision of the BCB medical team.
