Shakib inclusion to boost team’s confidence: Minhajul
Bangladesh chief selector Minhajul Abedin says Shakib Al Hasan’s inclusion in the Zimbabwe tour for a Test, three ODIs and three T20Is will boost the confidence of the team. The allrounder missed the previous Test tour of Bangladesh to Sri Lanka, and he was also out of action during Bangladesh’s New Zealand tour earlier this year.
Bangladesh national team will travel to Zimbabwe on June 29, and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Wednesday announced three different squads for this tour. Left-handed allrounder Shakib made it to all these squads.
“It’s a plus point for us that we got our best player back into the setup,” Minhajul told the media in a press conference after announcing the team on Wednesday. “I believe the team will be boosted morally with this inclusion. I hope he will deliver well which eventually will help the team’s performance.”

Bangladesh included newbie Shamim Hossain Patwary in the T20I squad. Shamim was one of Bangladesh’s main weapon during their U-19 World Cup-winning campaign in South Africa in 2020.
“We have been observing him since he came into the High-performance Unit. He did well when Ireland Wolves toured Bangladesh this year. He also did well in the matches he got a chance at afterwards. We hope his skill will help the national team do well,” Minhajul added.
Shamim played 19 List-A, 27 T20s and only First-class matches to the date. He is known as one of the best fielders who are currently playing in Bangladesh. The left-handed batsman is also capable of scoring runs quickly, and he can also be handy as a right-arm off-spin.
Left-handed top-order batsman Soumya Sarkar has been omitted from the ODI squad. Minhajul said to pave way for a left-arm spinner, they considered resting Soumya from ODIs for now.

“The team management wanted to have a left-arm spinner in the squad. So have decided to include Taijul Islam instead of Soumya, and we also added Nurul Hasan Sohan,” Minhajul told the media.
Sohan is added to all three squads of the game for the Zimbabwe series. He has been doing tremendously well in the ongoing edition of the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Twenty20 League for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club.
“His current form is enough to call him back to the national team,” Minhajul said about Sohan. “He did well in the practice sessions in Sri Lanka when he was in the primary squad. We believe he has the ability to do well for the national team.”
BCB stages a trainwreck around Shakib’s latest episode
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has handed a three-match ban and a fine of Tk 5 lakh to Shakib Al Hasan due to his outburst during the game between Abahani Limited and Mohammedan Sporting Club on Friday. While announcing his punishment on Saturday evening, BCB staged an unprecedented drama with the journalists cover sports in Bangladesh.
At 6:15 pm, the media department of BCB sent a message through WhatsApp saying a press conference of Kazi Inam Ahmed, the chairman of the cricket committee of Dhaka metropolis, to take place at 7:30 pm at Meena Bazar, Dhanmondi.
Another message popped up at 6:52 pm from the same sender saying the press conference has been cancelled, and it also said: “Any inconvenience is regretted.”

After a few minutes, a press conference took place at the garage of the residence of the BCB president Nazmul Hasan in Gulshan, which is at least 8.5 km away from the venue of the press conference that didn’t take place in Dhanmondi.
During the 37 minutes between the two messages from BCB’s media department, many journalists left for Dhanmondi from different parts of Dhaka, and they only ended up knowing that the press conference is already taking place in Gulshan in spite of no announcement of that press conference from BCB.
Earlier, Shakib kicked the stumps when an lbw appeal from him turned down by the umpire during the seventh round game of the Dhaka league on Friday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Shakib was not done doing that. He came to the scene again and uprooted a set of stumps that he then threw down again. This time he was upset at the umpires for asking the players to come off the field due to rain.
While returning to the dressing room after the rain came in to interrupt the game, Shakib had a heated exchange with Khaled Mahmud who is a member of the coaching staff of Abahani.
For all these, Shakib issued a public apology on his social media page. He wrote: “Dear fans and followers, I am extremely sorry for losing my temper and ruining the match for everyone and especially those who are watching from home. An experienced player like me should not have reacted that way but sometimes against all odds it happens, unfortunately. I apologise to the teams, management, tournament officials and organizing committee for this human error. Hopefully, I won't be repeating this again in the future.”

Bottom Line
Bangladeshi players have a mediocre position in the ICC player rankings as of May 2021. Bangladesh cricketers are always lagging behind in the world rankings due to a lack of consistency. This scenario will improve if we are able to consistently compete at an international level. On the other hand, cricketers like Virat Kohli, Babar Azam, Kane Williamson, and Pat Cummins are among the top in the ICC rankings across all formats.
IPL 2021: Shakib all set to face Mumbai Indians
Bangladesh and Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is all ready to face Mumbai Indians in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL), which is slated to start on April 9.

Kolkata's IPL will begin with their encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 11 in Chennai. They will face Mumbai Indians in their next game on April 13 at the same venue.
While talking to ESPNcricinfo recently, Shakib said he was waiting to face Mumbai in this IPL. "The team I am most looking forward to facing in this IPL is Mumbai.
"I would also love to face English pacer Jofra Archer who was slated to play for Rajasthan Royals," Shakib said. Jofra, however, is uncertain for this IPL, and the all-rounder said in the absence of Jofra, he would love to face Patt Cummins in the nets who is also playing for Kolkata.
This IPL is like a homecoming for Shakib as he returned to Kolkata after two years. In the last season, Shakib was out of cricketing activities due to a ban imposed on him by the International Cricket Council for failing to report corrupt approaches. Before that, the all-rounder played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2019.
Shakib was a part of Kolkata when they won two IPL titles. He said his best memory in IPL came in 2014 when he performed well with the bat and ball and Kolkata won the title. The Bangladesh all-rounder scored 227 runs and bagged 11 wickets in that season of IPL.

The all-rounder believes that the team's strongest side in this IPL is their bowling line-up. "I think we've covered all the area well."
"Namely, I believe the bowling department is the strongest part of our team. This bowling attack can win the IPL for Kolkata."
However, Shakib had some tough time off the field recently due to choosing IPL over Bangladesh's tour to Sri Lanka for a two-match series.
He applied to the Bangladesh Cricket Board to allow him to play IPL and skip the tour. The board accepted his request.
However, the board also said Shakib was reluctant to play Tests. But he did not say so.
