Dengue infections may drop next month: DGHS
Dengue cases are likely to start dropping from early November, said Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Director (disease control) Professor Dr. Nazmul Islam on Thursday (October 20, 2022).
The year dengue infections have increased due to climate change and lack of awareness among people, he told the reporters at an event organized by National Malaria Eradication and Aedes Transmitted Diseases (ATDS) Control Programme at a city hotel.

“Deaths from dengue are on the rise due to lack of timely treatment and negligence,” he said.
He also said the hospital authorities have taken all necessary measures to provide treatment to the increasing number of dengue patients. “Deaths from dengue can be reduced significantly if patients consult with doctors in time.”

With seven more deaths from dengue confirmed on Wednesday (October 19, 2022), the official death toll from the disease rose to 106 this year - the second-highest on record after the 179 deaths recorded in 2019. So far, the total number of Dengue cases in Bangladesh in 2022 stood at 27,802.
506 new Dengue patients hospitalised
Another 506 patients were hospitalised with dengue in 24 hours till Thursday morning.
Of the new patients, 367 were admitted to different hospitals in Dhaka and 139 outside it.
A total of 1,874 dengue patients, including 1,427 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.
This year’s death toll from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh rose to 55 on Wednesday with another death reported from Chattogram.

Of the total deaths, 27 were reported from Dhaka division, 24 from Chattogram and four from Barishal division.
On June 21, the DGHS reported the first death of the season from the viral disease.
This year, the directorate has recorded 15,852 dengue cases and 13,923 recoveries so far.
First two doses of Covid-19 vaccine won’t be available after Oct 3: DGHS DG
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Director General (DG) Prof Dr Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam has said that the government won’t provide first and second doses of Covid-19 vaccine after October 3.
The DG said this during a press conference at the conference room of DGHS in the capital Wednesday noon.
“On the occasion of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s birthday, we’ve started a special vaccination campaign for those who haven’t received first and second doses of Covid-19 vaccine yet. The campaign will continue till October 3 and we won’t provide the first two doses of the vaccine after this time. However, we’ll keep administering the booster doses,” said Khurshid.
About the fourth dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, the DG said that it’ll be provided once World Health Organization (WHO) allows it.
Pointing out that the government has already reached its vaccination target, Khurshid added that they’re trying to increase the pace of vaccination campaigns as there are still some people who are unvaccinated.

“Out of the country’s total population, 97 per cent has received the first dose of the vaccine while the rates of receiving the second and booster doses of the vaccine are 90 percent and 41 per cent respectively. Our stock is limited while the expiry dates of some of the vaccines are also approaching. The good news is that we still have three crore doses of vaccine,” Khurshid added.
Dr Shamsul Haque, member of DGHS’s vaccination committee, informed during the press briefing that vaccination campaign for children aged between 5-11 years will begin at the district and upazila levels on October 11.
Prof Dr Ahmedul Kabir, Additional DG (Admin) of DGHS and Dr Nazmul Islam, Director (Disease Control) of DGHS, among others, were present during the press conference.
Dengue claims 55 lives since June 21: DGHS
Another dengue patient died in 24 hours till Wednesday morning, raising this year’s death toll from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 55.
During this period, 524 more patients were hospitalised with the viral fever as cases have continued to increase, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
On June 21, the DGHS reported the first death of the season from the viral disease.
The latest death was reported from Chattogram division raising the death toll in the division to 24.

The dengue death toll in Dhaka division remained unchanged at 27 and in Barishal division at four.
Of the new patients, 373 were admitted to different hospitals in Dhaka and 151 outside it.
A total of 1,820 dengue patients, including 1,388 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.
This year, the directorate has recorded 15,346 dengue cases and 13,471 recoveries so far.
Covid positivity rate rises to 15.42 in Bangladesh; Another dies
Bangladesh reported another Covid-linked death with 737 fresh cases in 24 hours till Tuesday morning.
With the new numbers, country's total fatalities rose to 29,360 while the total caseload to 2,023,145, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The daily case test positivity rate rose to 15.42 per cent from Monday’s 13.58 per cent as 4,781 samples were tested.
The latest deceased was a woman from Rangpur division.
The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.45 per cent while the recovery rate declined to 97.06 per cent respectively.

In August, the country reported 32 Covid-linked deaths and 6,689 cases.
Bangladesh registered its highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year and daily fatalities of 264 on August 10 the same year.
Dengue: 145 more hospitalised in 24hrs
Another 145 dengue patients were hospitalised in 24 hours till Friday morning.
Of them, 140 were admitted to different hospitals of Dhaka and five outside it, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
A total of 993 dengue patients, including 770 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.

This year's death toll from the mosquito-borne viral disease rose to 31 on Tuesday with five more deaths reported from Dhaka, Chattogram and Cox's Bazar districts.
Of the deceased, 15 were from Cox's Bazar, 13 from Dhaka, two from Barishal and another from Chattogram.

This year, the directorate has recorded 8,096 dengue cases and 7,132 recoveries so far.
Dengue claims five more lives in 24 hrs, 284 others hospitalised
Five more Dengue patients died in 24 hours till this morning (September 6, 2022), raising this year’s death toll from the mosquito-borne disease to 31.
During this period, 284 more people were hospitalised with the viral fever as cases have continued to increase, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The latest deaths were reported from Dhaka, Chattogram and Cox's Bazar districts.

With the new numbers, the dengue death toll in Cox’s Bazar stood at 15 while at 13 in Dhaka.
Of the new patients, 224 were admitted to different hospitals in Dhaka and 60 outside it, DGHS said.
A total of 850 dengue patients, including 711 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.
On June 21, the DGHS reported the first death of the season from the viral disease.
This year, the directorate has recorded 7,397 dengue cases and 6,516 recoveries so far.
Bangladesh sees one more Covid death, 214 cases
Bangladesh reported one more Covid-linked death and 214 cases in 24 hours to Friday morning.
With the new numbers, the country's total fatalities rose to 29,326 and caseload to 2,012,376, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The daily case test positivity rate rose to 5.68 percent from Thursday’s 5.46 percent as 3,768 samples were tested.

The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.46 percent. However, the recovery rate rose to 97.25 percent.
In August, the country reported 32 Covid-linked deaths and 6,689 cases.

90 more dengue cases reported
Ninety more people were hospitalised with dengue – a viral infection – in the 24 hours to Friday morning.
Of them, 71 were admitted to the hospitals of Dhaka and 19 outside it, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Seven hundred and seventy-six dengue patients, including 652 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.

This year's death toll from the mosquito-borne viral disease rose to 22 Thursday with one more death reported from Cox's Bazar. Of all the deceased, 12 were from Cox's Bazar and 10 from Dhaka.

Dengue death toll rises to 21 as another dies; 251 new patients hospitalised
One more patient died from dengue in the 24 hours until Wednesday morning raising this year’s death toll from the mosquito-borne disease to 21, said health authorities.
During this period, 251 people were hospitalised with the viral fever as cases have continued to increase in Bangladesh, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The latest death was reported from Dhaka, where the dengue death toll stood at 10. Eleven other fatalities were from Cox’s Bazar.

Of the new patients, 203 were admitted to the hospitals of Dhaka and 48 outside it, as per DGHS.
As many as 784 dengue patients, including 675 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country, it added.
