Mim, Razz want to watch ‘Poran’ with elderly person denied entry to Cineplex for ‘lungi’
Poran lead actors Bidya Sinha Saha Mim Sariful Razz shared posts on their respective Facebook profiles expressing their desire to watch the film with the elderly person who was denied ticket at Star Cineplex’s Sony Square branch at Mirpur for wearing ‘lungi’.
“Can anyone find this elderly father? Please mange his phone number or address and inbox it only. I will watch the film with him and chat like father-daughter. He will watch the film with our Poran team wearing lungi,” Mim wrote in her post.
Sariful Razz also shared a similar post on his Facebook in search of the unidentified man expressing his dismay.
The incident of an elderly person with grey beard wearing lungi denied entry to Star Cineplex’s Sony Square branch at Mirpur for his informal attire has created quite a stir among netizens after it was shared on social media on Wednesday.
The film fraternity widely criticized the approach of the authorities as a staff at the counter denied to sell him a ticket to watch recently released film Poran directed by Raihan Rafi.

However, the Star Cineplex authorities apologized for the incident and called it result of an unfortunate misunderstanding.
“We would like to clarify Star Cineplex does not discriminate against customers based on anything, least of all a person’s attire. No such policies exist at our organisation that would deny a person the right to purchase a ticket because of them choosing to wear a lungi. We want to emphasise everyone is welcome to experience their favourite movies at our cinema halls,” they wrote in their Facebook page on Thursday.
The Star Cineplex authorities also invited the elderly person and his family at their Sony Square branch to watch Poran.
Besides, they said they are investigating this incident and promised to ensure no such misunderstandings take place in the future.

The film was first released on the Day of Valentine's on February 14, 2020. Korean Web Series "Operation Proposal Loosely Inspires this Movie."
The film was also selected for official screening at the International Indian Film Festival in Toronto, held in August 2020.
The film won South Indian International Movie Awards-SIIMA (Tamil) for Best Actor Critics (Ashok Selvan) in 2021. Also got five nominations for SIIMA Awards 2021: Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Film, Best Cinematographer, Best Actress in a Supporting Role & Best Music Director.

'Operation Sundarban’ to hit the theatres on September 23
Projecting the courageous and breathtaking role of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)'s historical operations to defeat the pirates of the Sundarbans, acclaimed director Dipankar Dipon directed 'Operation Sundarban' is set for release on September 23 this year.
The official trailer of the much-anticipated action thriller film, produced by RAB Welfare Cooperative Society Limited, was released at a gala event on Friday night at the Laboni Point in the Cox’s Bazar sea beach, where the makers announced the release date of the film.
The 2-minute and 40-second trailer of the film featured Dhallywood's celebrated superstar Riaz Ahmed, Siam Ahmed, Nusraat Faria, Ziaul Roshan, Shatabdi Wadud and others in the setting of the film at Sundarbans as the important characters, and the trailer is earning appraisal from audiences for showcasing the commendable narrative of the film’s remarkable plot, history and facts, alongside the breathtaking visuals.

Inspector General of Bangladesh Police Benazir Ahmed attended the trailer launching event as the chief guest while RAB Director General Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun joined as the special guest, alongside director Dipon and other higher officials and the cast members of the film.
“Not only a wonderful documentation of history, but "Operation Sundarban" is the success story of solving a four hundred years old-problem. Without proper documentation, the glorious tale of our operation against the pirates in the Sundarbans would remain untold. From that perspective, we took the initiative, and Dipon made justice with proper research and development for this film," Benazir Ahmed said.
Regarding his long-anticipated film, Dipankar Dipon said, “Our film is depicting this amazing story with the involvement of our 1,300 cast and crew members, narrating the saga of the mission against the water pirates and the aftermath of their post-pirate life, as well as the livelihood of the natives living around Sundarban. Without the cordial cooperation of RAB members and other elite forces officials, alongside the people of Sundarbans - this film would not see the daylight."
Under the supervision of RAB, the shooting of the film has taken place in multiple remote areas in the Sundarbans.
Actor Siam Ahmed, alongside Ziaul Roshan, Riaz Ahmed and others have undergone special training sessions from RAB before the shooting in he Sundarbans and were seen taking part in various expeditions on water, land, and air in the trailer.

'Operation Sundarban,' was initially scheduled to be released during Eid-ul-Adha in 2020, which got delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The film was then scheduled to be released on Eid-ul-Adha in 2021, however that date was also pushed back.
Alongside Riaz, Siam, Nusraat Faria and Roshan, the film also features Raisul Islam Asad, Shatabdi Wadud, Manoj Pramanik, Taskeen Rahman, Rawnak Hasan, Arman Parvez Murad and Indian-Bengali actress Darshana Banik in other important characters.
WaterAid Bangladesh launches film ‘Kohinoor’ on life, plights of women waste workers
WaterAid with support of Who Gives A Crap, a recognized toilet paper brand in Australia, has launched a film on the story of a sanitation worker aimed at showcasing health hazards and challenges faced by women waste workers in day to day lives.
Kohinoor, film a fictional character with lead protagonist by Zakia Bari Mamo reveals the difficulties and sheer will power to overcome barriers for reaching her dreams.

Filmed in Mautail Landfills, it shares experiences through compelling cinematography on the lack of facilities for marginalized communities like sanitation and waste workers.
The purpose of the film is to raise mass awareness for citizens of Bangladesh and create social awareness towards respecting the profession of waste and sanitation workers, said a press release on Thursday .
Mamo as ‘Kohinoor’ depicts the story of a waste worker who is a single mother, faces upheavals in life while trying to make a better future for her daughter.
The film has been directed by Kamrul Hasan and ideated by WaterAid team. The 40-minute feature film has already attracted attention in social media for Mamo’s acting and the key messages the film is delivering to all.

'Omanush' released in 41 theatres
Nirab and Mithila's duo starrer film 'Omanush,' directed by Anonno Mamun, was released on Friday in 41 theatres across the country.
‘Omanush’ has been at the centrepoint of discussion from the beginning because of the storyline of the movie, as the film is based on actual facts and reality. The film also became the talk of the town as popular actress Rafiat Rashid Mithila's first silver screen project.
Furthermore, prior to its release, the varied promotional activities piqued viewers' excitement in watching the film.
Director Anonno Mamun said, “I took an attempt to go beyond the boundaries of everything in the movie. Choosing the story from that thought, I started working after facing many challenges. Since the whole shooting took place in the jungle, the experience has been very different than usual.”
He added, “The nature of cinema has changed all over the world and our audience demands better. We have tried to meet that expectation, and thanks to all the actors and crew who worked on it. Everyone worked hard to help me finish the film, now waiting to see the response of the audience.”
Regarding the movie, actor Nirab Hossain said, "An artist always wants to take a challenge about the character and I got to do the same in this movie. This is the first time I have played the role of a robber, for which I have had to take preparation for a long time. All these hardships are for a good reason, so there will be expectations towards the audience as we want them to watch and criticize us, and also give us more encouragement.”
Despite being the lead actress of 'Omanush,' Mithila was not present at any publicity and press conference for the movie. However, she spoke about the film through a video message, saying: "My first film 'Omanush' is being released. I apologize for not being present at the premiere, as I am residing far away from the country at this moment - but I urge you all to come and watch the movie on June 16 and let us know your feedback.”
Mithila further said, "The story of this movie is different from the story of our traditional films. The story of a band of robbers in the jungle, which was very adventurous.”
Actress Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed said, “This film is being released as my new venture for the silver screen after a long period of time. I'm a little scared, but I feel absolutely lucky to have been able to do the robber character in this movie. Although it was very difficult to develop such a character, everyone on the team gave me great encouragement. I have seen a lot of interest from the audience and I urge everyone to come to the hall and watch the film.”
The shooting of 'Omanush' started in 2021. After completing the work in Bandarban in the beginning, the shooting ended in Dhaka in mid-August after shooting in different parts of the country including Rangamati, Sylhet, Narayanganj and Bhaluka.
Misha Saudagar, Shahiduzzaman Selim, Rashed Mamun Apu, Don and many others have also acted in the movie.

Bongo brings South Indian film 'NGK'
Video streaming platform Bongo released Sai Pallavi and Suriya's political film ''NGK," dubbed in Bangla, Friday.
The story revolves around an honest good doer whose life becomes a living hell due to the political conspiracy, selfishness and corruption surrounding him.
Nanda Gopal Kumar (Suriya), nicknamed NGK, is an environmental engineering graduate who resigns from his job to take up organic farming.
NGK is a do-gooder who always has people's welfare and best interest in mind. The youngsters of his small-town look up to him as a role model. He lives with his loving parents and a caring but possessive wife (Sai Pallavi).
However, the local politicians envy NGK's reach among the local youth. Ultimately a clash between city politicians and NGK erupts.
NGK was released in theatres on May 31, 2019.
Popular streaming platform Amazon Prime released the movie in Tamil on July 5, 2019, on their OTT platform. It is the first Tamil movie released in South Korea and Japan.

Roni Bhowmik’s New Short Film ‘Chakrakar’ released by Vivo
Roni Bhowmik directed short film ‘Chakrakar’ has recently been released by international smartphone brand Vivo Bangladesh, which has been shot on its latest flagship device Vivo X80 5G.
Receiving overwhelming responses on social media, the short film has been released on Vivo Bangladesh Facebook page.
Apart from its making, story, and acting; the most jaw-dropping surprise is that this short film has been made with the Vivo X80 5G smartphone, according to Vivo Bangladesh. Filmmaker Roni Bhowmik worked on this short film, as a part of vivo X80 5G campaign.
‘Chakrakar’ has been shot in different locations of Dhaka and Chattogram. The story revolves around a suburban middle-class family. It illustrates mother-son relationship, their mutual love and care and a sudden attack of Alzheimer's disease.

Popular actors Afsana Mimi, Yash Rohan, Nova Firoz and Aryan Mohammad Dihan acted in the short film. Alongside direction Roni Bhowmik has written the screenplay and Mohammad Towkir Islam did the cinematography.
Regarding this project, Roni Bhowmik said, “The advantage of shooting with a phone is that, since it is very easy to use, one can take multiple dynamic shots. My experience of shooting with a phone is pretty new. It is a bit challenging for people who work professionally."
"New filmmakers who want to tell stories, can resort to a smartphone for visualizing their stories. Young filmmakers can easily present their contents to the audience without bothering about large arrangements," he added.
Zayed Khan denies allegation of wielding pistol and threatening to shoot Omar Sani
Film actor Zayed Khan allegedly took out a pistol and threatened to shoot fellow actor Omar Sani at the wedding event of Dhallywood actor Dipjol's son.However, denying the allegation and echoing the statement of Dipjol, Zayed Khan told UNB: "This is a piece of completely baseless news. We had normal conversations. Nothing has happened between us that could lead to such false news.”According to sources, the event occurred on Friday night at a wedding ceremony at a convention centre in the capital.Dipjol, however, denied the incident to UNB when contacted, saying, "This is completely false, baseless news. It is very unfortunate that the reports came out without verifying the truth. The reported incident did not take place at all.”Dipjol added, "Is it that easy that anyone will show up at a wedding with a pistol! Everyone was checked before entering the ceremony. I was present there the whole time and whatever has been revealed or reported about this, is totally baseless.”Earlier, it was reported that Zayed Khan misbehaved with Sani’s wife, popular actress Arifa Pervin Zaman Moushumi, and Omar Sani got furious over the issue. This incident later went out of order.Omar Sani could not be reached for any comment on the incident.

'JK 1971' official teaser released
The official teaser of Fakhrul Arefeen Khan's film "JK 1971," Bangladesh's first English language movie on the 1971 Liberation War, was released online Saturday.
The 1 minute 16 second teaser was released on Gorai Film's YouTube channel and Facebook page.
Based on a true incident, the film features the real-life story of Jean Kay, a young Frenchman, who hijacked a plane of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) just after the vehicle took off on December 3, 1971, in Paris, demanding 20 tonnes of emergency child medicine for Bangladeshi refugees during the Liberation War.
"This is really an exciting moment for us as we recently completed our post-production work. The audience reaction after the release of the teaser tells us that we need to bring this film to theatres as soon as possible," Arefeen told UNB.
Also, the "Bhubon Majhi" and "Gondi" director said the official trailer will be released in September this year, and the movie might hit the theatres in December.
Co-produced by Gorai Films and Tanvir A Mishuk, the film features American Francisco Raymond, West Bengal's Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Sourav Shuvro Das, Indrajit Mazumder; Russian actors Deria Gvrusenko, Nikolai Novominaski, and 36 foreign artists from the US, UK, and Spain.
Renowned scriptwriter Masum Reza and director Arefeen worked on the screenplay of the film.
