Expelled Sramik League leader Tufan denied SC bail
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected the bail petition of expelled Sramik League leader Tufan Sarkar of Bogura in a case filed by ACC.
A full bench of the Appellate Division led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order.
Advocate Sharif Uddin Chakladar stood for Tufan while Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan represented theAnti-Corruption Commission ( ACC).

On March 1, the High Court rejected the bail petition of Tufan in a case filed by ACC and said he will not be able to file a bail petition in any court.
Later, Tufan Sarkar filed a petition with the Appellate Division challenging the HC order.
The case was filed against Tufan over amassing wealth and concealing wealth information.
Tufan has no source of income and he in the Tax return submitted a return of Tk 1.60 crore.
He also refrained from giving the right information to ACC about his wealth.
On December 31, 2018, The ACC deputy director Mohammad Aminul Islam filed a case with Bogura Sadar Police Station.
Tufan is in prison since 2017 in a case filed over the rape and torture of a schoolgirl and her mother.
On June 22, 2020, The High Court rejected the bail petition of Tufan Sarkar in the case filed over the rape and torture of a schoolgirl and her mother.
Tufan took the girl to his house at Badurtala in the district town promising to arrange her admission into a local college and raped her there on July 17, in 2017.

When Tufan's wife Asha and her elder sister Rumki came to know about the incident, they along with some associates picked up the girl and her mother from their house.
They allegedly beat the girl and her mother with sticks and cut the hair of their heads.
At one stage, the offenders got their heads shaved done by a barber on July 28, 2017.
Later, two cases were filed in this connection on July 29 in the same year.
Swechchasebak League leader hacked to death in Bogura
A Swechchasebak League leader on Sunday night was hacked to death in Bogura's Shajahanpur upazila.
The deceased was identified as Shihab Uddin Babu, 35, former social welfare secretary of Shajahanpur upazila Swechchhasebak League and owner of Shahidul Matsya Bhandar in Sabrul Bazar of the upazila.

According to locals, after shopping from Sabrul Bazar, Shihab Uddin Babu was returning home at night. At around 8.30 pm a group of miscreants hacked him with sharp weapon.
Due to excessive bleeding, he died on the spot.
Soon after the incident the people of the bazar shut their shops and left.
Police later recovered the body and sent it to the morgue.
Shahjahanpur police sub-inspector Abdur Razzak said police had been deployed in the Sabrul Bazar area.

Bogra Sadar Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Faisal Mahmud said the body was sent to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
An investigation was underway in this regard.
1 dead, 2 ill after drinking spurious liquor in Bogura
One person died and two others fell severely ill after drinking toxic alcohol in Bogura’s Gabtali upazila.
The deceased was identified as Shahidul Islam (28), a fishmonger and son of late Sirajul Islam of Madhyapara village in West Mahishaban.
The incident occurred at Madhyapara village of the upazila at around 2am on Saturday.

Police recovered the body of Shahidul and sent it to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The condition of the other two, now under treatment, is said to be severe.

Senior assistant superintendent of police (Gabtali Circle) Sabina Yasmin and officer-in-charge Zia Latiful Islam visited the spot.
The alcohol dealer Dr Bahanul Alam Badal, owner of Beauty Homoeo Hall in Golabari Port was arrested after the incident.

Gabtali Police Station OC Zia Latiful Islam said the allegations of death due to severe toxicity can be confirmed after the medical report comes.
However, the family of the deceased Shahidul Islam said on Saturday afternoon that he had died of a heart attack and not from drinking alcohol.
