Chattogram: Car importer held for duping bizman of Tk 27 lakh
Police have arrested a car importer in Chattogram for allegedly duping a businessman of Tk 27 lakh on the pretext of selling him a Toyota Allion.
Arifur Rahman Siddiqui owns NH Enterprise that deals in reconditioned sedans. He was nabbed from the Agrabad area of the city on Monday on the basis of an arrest warrant issued by a local court, police said Tuesday.

Abul Kashem Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of Double Mooring police station, said Arifur, the son of Mahbubur Rahman of Potia Junglekhain Union, had been on the run for several days.
According to Nizam Uddin, the complainant, he signed an agreement with Arifur for buying a 2016-make Toyota Allion for Tk 27 lakh on June 11, 2019.
As part of the pact, Nizam then paid Arifur Tk 7 lakh in cash. For the remaining money, he had issued a cheque.
But having failed to deliver the imported car to Nizam even after a year, Arifur agreed to return the money and issued a cheque for Tk 20 lakh in Nizam's favour in August last year. He had also promised to return the remaining money in cash, police said.

Bit the cheque was dishonoured and Arifur subsequently went into hiding. Left with no option, Nizam then moved the local court and the accused was asked to appear before the judge hearing the petition.
Arifur didn't respond to the legal summons thrice, prompting the court to issue a warrant for his arrest. "The accused will be produced in the court later in the day," the OC added.
Attack on Hasina’s motorcade: absconding convict held in city
Police have arrested a man who had been on the run since he was given a 10-year jail term for an attack on the motorcade of then-opposition leader Sheikh Hasina in Satkhira district.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s intelligence wing held absconding Arifur Rahman Ranju from the city’s Hazaribagh area on Friday.
Ranju, a former Chhatra Dal leader, confessed to leading a group of 50 people in carrying out the attack on Aug. 30 in 2002 at Kalaroa in Satkhira district. Sheikh Hasina was returning to Dhaka after attending a meeting in Kalaroa.

A court in Khulna held trial of the 50 attackers, including Ranju, in a case over attempt on the life of Sheikh Hasina, the current prime minister.
Detective Branch (DB) Additional Commissioner AKM Hafiz Akhter told reporters at DMP's media center on Saturday that Ranju started student politics in 1993 at Kalaroa College. He used to lead college Chattrd Dal.
After the investigation charge sheets were issued against 50 people. On February 3, the court sentenced Ranju to 10 years in jail. Ranju had been on the run ever since, he said.

The additional commissioner informed that Ranju would be taken to court at Satkhira Saturday to complete further legal procedures.
Hefazat leader Mamunul Haq finally arrested
Joint secretary general of Hefazat-e-Islam Mamunul Haq was finally arrested from a madrasah in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area on Sunday.
A joint team, comprising members of the police, Detective Branch and other forces, conducted a drive at Jamia Rahmania Madrasah at noon and arrested him, said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Media) Iftekharul Islam.

At a press briefing, deputy commissioner of DMP Harunur Rashid said, “Mamunul was arrested in connection with a case filed over vandalism with Mohammadpur Police Station in 2020.”

Kishoreganj youth held for making ‘derogatory remarks’ on PM, ministers
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested a young man from Gachihata Bazar in Katiadi upazila allegedly for derogatory posts on the Prime Minister and other ministers on his facebook page on Thursday night.
The arrestee is Shiblu Mia, 36, son of Keru Mia of Dash Kahnia of the upazila.
Tipped off, a team of Rab-14 conducted a drive in the area and arrested Shiblu around 8 pm, said assistant director of Rab-14 Kishoreganj camp, ASP Mohammad Ali Akkas.
Shiblu used to make derogatory remarks and spread propagandas against the Prime Minister and other ministers by opening a facebook Id ‘Zia Soinik Dal Kotiadi upazila Branch’, he said.
The elite force members also seized a mobile phone.
