Tigers humiliated at home as Pakistan seal Chattogram Test
Tigers were humiliated by Pakistan as the visitors cruised to an emphatic eight-wicket win on the fifth day of Chattogram Test at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Tuesday.
And with this win, Pakistan ensured a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. The second Test of the series will take place in Dhaka from December 4.
With all wickets in hand, Pakistan needed to score 93 runs on the fifth day of the game — and they did it without much resistance from the hosts.
Abid Ali missed his twin-ton in the match just by nine runs. He led the visitors to batter the hosts in this match, scoring a cumulative 224 runs. Debutant Abdullah Shafique also came to the limelight, scoring a twin-50 as the new Pakistan Test opener.

Bangladesh only managed to bag two wickets in the fourth innings of the match. Abid and Abdullah put up an opening stand of 155 in the fourth innings in what threw away Bangladesh’s all hope from this match.
On the eve of Pakistan’s victory, Bangladesh’s captain Mominul Haque set a super-attacking field, but that was too late to implement and the visitors easily chipped away with Azhar Ali hitting two back-to-back fours off Mehidy Hasan Miraz to seal the match.
Bangladesh though were in the driving seat during the game -- they managed to post 330 in the first innings despite losing early wickets when Liton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim led the charge, they also managed a rare first-innings lead, though it was not that big, but at the end was not enough for the hosts to save their first match of the new cycle of the ICC World Test Championship.
Bangladesh surely missed the third seamer in this match. While two Pakistan pacers— Hassan Ali and Shaheen Afridi— were the best bowlers for the visitors, Bangladeshi pacers were toneless.
Abu Jayed, who is regarded the best pacer of the current Test set-up of Bangladesh, bowled 16 overs but failed to grab any wicket. Ebadot Hossain, the other pacer of Bangladesh’s XI, bowled 34 overs and took two wickets in the first innings.
Taijul Islam bagged seven wickets in the first innings, and one in the second. Mehidy was also impressive, at least, to contain the runs and put pressure on the opposition batters.
Bangladesh captain believes that early wickets at the start of both the innings made things tough for the hosts. He said at the post-match ceremony: “We lost in the first one hour of the first innings and second innings as well. I thought Mushi and Liton batted really well.” Mominul credited Hasan and Shaheen for Pakistan’s win.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam said it was the consistency with the ball that drove them along the way after falling behind at the end of the first innings. “We came back well the next day (after Bangladesh doing well despite losing early wickets), and that's what Test cricket is all about. You have time to make a comeback. When there is a partnership, we have to be more consistent with our bowling.”
Bangladesh came to this match with huge criticism regarding their performance in the T20 World Cup and in the T20I series against Pakistan. But a century by Liton and a 90 by Mushfiqur helped calmed down the things for now.
Debutant Yasir Ali also did well, but due to a nasty blow on the head, he had to leave the field midway and go to the hospital for a 24-hour observation. To replace him, Bangladesh fielded Nurul Hasan Sohan as a substitute, but he failed to grab the chance.
Bangladesh might get the service of Shakib Al Hasan in the second Test, and that would surely boost the confidence of the team, as they have a good chance to bounce back in the Dhaka pitch which is more familiar to the Bangladesh players than the Chattogram surface.

Chattogram Test: Pakistan make it close as openers hit fifties
Pakistan need only 93 runs to seal the Chattogram Test against Bangladesh.
At the end of day four on Monday, Pakistan were batting at 109 for none with openers— Abid Ali and Abdullah Shafique— hitting a fifty each.
In the final innings of the match, Pakistan’s target is 202, and they are off to a strong start to achieve that. They batted 33 overs to end day four without any loss.
Mominul Haque, the Bangladesh captain, used all of his specialist bowlers without a bit of luck, which might have made him understand the deficit of playing a Test with only four bowlers.

Bangladesh ended their second innings at 157 in 56.2 overs despite a fifty from Liton Das who also hit a hundred in the first innings. He was accompanied well by debutant Yasir Ali who later was hurt hard in his head by a nasty bouncer by Shaheen Afridi.
Bangladesh were at 39 for four at the end of day three. They needed the partnership between Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton to stay longer, but they couldn’t. Mushfiqur, the lynchpin of Bangladesh batting line, was removed by Hasan Ali in the first over of the day.
After his dismissal, Liton and Yasir posted 47 runs on the board before Yasir had to leave the field with a blow. Mehdiy Hasan Miraz, and Nurul Hasan Sohan came in after that, but failed to play longer.
Sohan got the chance to bat as a concussion substitute to Yasir. He went to play big shots unnecessary and cost his wicket. After Sohan’s departure, Bangladesh have done little as Shaheen took two wickets in an over.

Yasir got the blow in the 30th over in the morning session of day four of the ongoing Chattogram Test between Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Right after the blow, Yasir called back to the dressing room and was sent to the hospital for a quick scan.

It was the debut Test for Yasir, and he scored 36 in the second innings before retiring out. Replacement Nurul hit 15.

Bangladesh add Sohan in Chattogram Test as concussion replacement of Yasir
Bangladesh added Nurul Hasan Shohan to the playing XI of Chattogram Test as a concussion replacement of debutant Yasir Ali who suffered a blow on his head early on day four of the ongoing Test against Pakistan. Yasir walked off the field after the drink break I the first session of day four. Mehidy Hasan Miraz came to bat after Yasir went back with a blow.
Read:BAN vs PAK 1st Test 2021: The fate of the match could decide on day four Shortly after, Bangladesh announced that Nurul Hasan is included in the playing XI as the concussion replacement. It was a delivery of Shaheen Afridi that stayed low but Yasir judged it wrongly. The ball hit back of head. Yasir showed ‘thumbs up’ to indicate that he is fine. But since it’s a blow on head, he was called back and sent to hospital for a scan. According to ICC law, in the cases of concussion replacement, a team can field a ‘like-for-like replacement’, meaning a bowler can replace a bowler, and a batter can replace a batter.

It was Mominul’s first duck after 13 innings. Bangladesh captain contributed only six in the first innings of the match.
Saif Hassan, who failed to do anything in the first innings, came up with a 34-ball 18 but failed to continue on a good start despite having some animated advice from the veteran Mushfiqur in the middle.
Mushfiqur and Yasir spent the last 40 minutes of the day to ensure no further setback for the hosts.

Mushfiqur’s dismissal was a questionable call from the third umpire. Faheem Ashraf’s delivery was landed at the back of a length at the off stump. Mushfiqur tried to push it gently, but the ball seemed to touch his bat and reached the wicketkeeper. The umpire called it out, and Mushfiqur went for a review immediately.

Chattogram Test: Imperious Liton strikes maiden ton
Liton Das smashed an unbeaten maiden Test century to guide Bangladesh to post a comfortable 253 for four on the first day of the first Test against Pakistan on Friday in Chattogram.
This has been an imperious comeback of the wicket-keeper-batter, who was dropped from the recently held three-match T20I series against Pakistan for his poor form.
Mushfiqur Rahim, who was also out of the T20I series, made an unbeaten 82 in a stylish comeback with Liton.
Liton was also unbeaten at 113 for 225 with 11 fours and one six.
In the unbroken fifth wicket stand, the two experienced players added 204 runs on the board after losing four wickets in the morning session. This is now the fourth highest fifth wicket stand for Bangladesh in Tests.
Right before the series against Pakistan, Liton had a stinging World Cup campaign in Oman and the UAE where he played eight matches to score only 133 runs at an average of 16.62. It was enough for Bangladesh selectors to leave him out of the T20I team.

However, Liton finally proved that his bad patch was gone, and he got his zeal back on the track.
The right-handed batsman completed his maiden Test ton in 199 balls. He surpassed his previous best of 95 against Zimbabwe.
Riding on wonderful batting efforts from Mushfiqur and Liton, Bangladesh went to the stumps on the first day without losing any wicket in the second and third session.
Earlier, in the first session, Bangladesh lost four wickets for 49.
Saif Hassan and Shadman Islam, Bangladesh’s Test openers, failed to lay down a solid foundation when they both were back to the dressing room in no time. Both contributed 14 each.
